Nigeria’s air and maritime domain is perhaps the most unprotected of any major country in the world. Why our government chooses to remain aloof to the pororusness of Nigeria’s Air, land and Maritime space, desespite our huge energy resources and reserve stretches the ability of the human mind to comprehend.

Nigerian Navy Flagship NNS Thunder transits the Pacific on its way to Australia as Africa’s sole representative in the International Fleet Review in Australia 2013.
Not too long ago the Nigerian Navy, the maritime power in West Africa embarked on a fleet recapitalization exercise that saw the Nigerian Navy aquire several warships, including several brand new Stealth Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV).

What many Nigerians are uaware of is that the Cameroonian Navy, in response to Nigeria’s Naval acquisitions acquired two warships of similar class from China. In that same year it also took delivery of two Spanish patrol vessels, two 24 meter Aresa 2400 CPV Defender patrol ships and a landing craft. We should note that the Spanish Navy has in recent years supplied 12 (YES TWELVE) Aresa pattol ships to the Cameroonian Navy.

This figure includes 6 Aresa 750 Commando RIBs, five 1200 Stealth RIBs and one 1200 Defcon RIB vessel and two 32 metre heavily armed patrol boats.

Now why would the Cameroonian Navy need a landing craft?

Cameroonian Navy Flagship CNC Dipika.
There is little doubt the Cameroonian Navy even without French assistance is relatively well equipped to protect its oil installations. Cameroon doesn’t need a blue or even brown water Navy, its littoral Navy is optimised for coastal and river patrol. Countries under dictatorships don’t joke when it comes to their military. The Cameroonian Navy operates over 40 coastal, inshore and rive4 patrol craft and well dozens of well armed patrol crafts.)

The Nigerian Navy, tasked with securing Nigeria’s Equitorial Economic Zone (EEZ), Nigeria’s staggering proven oil reserve of 40 billion barrels, and who’s security allocation is nearly twice the entire Defence budget of Cameroon is SLEEPING.

In May 2017 ( trust the Nigerian media to hide such embarrassing reports from the Nigerian people), a Cameroonian warship which had senior naval intelligence officials on board showed up in waters of Nigeria’s Eastern Naval Command in Calabar at exactly 12 noon on Thursday, May 18 2017. It should be noted the vessel also had Cameroonian journalists and civilian dignitaries on board.

And just when you think it doesnt get worse than this ,the Naval intelligence chief of the Eastern Naval Command, Commander Abdulkadir said the Nigerian authorities were yet to be formally briefed on the mission of the Cameroonian Warship, which by the way is the flagship- the most powerful warship of the Cameroonian Navy, the pride of Francophone Africa.

It doesnt get worse thsn this right? WRONG. DEAD WRONG !!

The Ambasador of Cameroon in Nigeria was escorted into the ship where he receive salutes from both the Nigerian and Cameroonian Navy personnel before he shook hands with his compatriots.

What country in the world rolls out a red carpet courtesy reception for the warship of a rival navy that illegally enters its territorial waters and have the effortry to dock at its port.

This coming at a time when the President of Nigeria is either sleeping or incapable of leading the country, leaving one of Africa’s most powerful countries virtually without real leadership is troubling.

Book Haram saved Nigeria from a humiliating and embarrassing from a Franco-Cameroonian invasion of Eastern Calabar and the annexation of Obudu. How much slap and embarrassment must Nigeria take before we finally open our eyes that we are gradually becoming the laughing stock to our regional rivals. They have succeeded in taken Bakassi, a feat thought impossible during the Abacha years. They have militarized the Bakassi region. Just two weeks ago 95 Nigerians were killed by the Cameroonian Elite BIT over their refusal to pay taxes, yet not a single publicly worded condemnation was issued, Do we even have a President?

Nigeria’s defences are being proded. The Cameroonians still have their eyes on beautiful Calabar, the Chadians, hurt by glibal drop in oil prices are in desperate need of oil, they have their eyes on the prospective oil fields of Borno. Our country is fracturing, seccesationist movement are being secretly funded by the “external forces”, even though the majority of the igbos are against it, our politicians seem aloof to what is happening. If there is any time to make a move on Nigeria it is now.

We are on the verge of a major embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Franco Alliance, a defeat that will forever end Nigeria’s claim as an African hegemon.

we have weak leaders that does not have the interest of the Masse's .when I read about that invasion of Nigeria water by Cameron warship , I was disappointed with the way Nigeria government handle the issue like it was something of no importance , after all those embarrassment I was left with one conclusion. my conclusion is that if Nigeria can't retain is former glory (as the giant of Africa). then there is no need to live together when we can be strong in our own different region.

Just look at how ídiots derailed a very serious thread. Truly, nairaland politics section has gone to the dogs, there's a severe shortage of intellectuals and those willing to learn here unlike before. What we now have a tribal irredentists, political bigots and little kids who don't know their left from their right. This section needs a total overhaul honestly.

Cc MYND44, OAM4J & Seun. Pls do something about the decay in politics section
