Forgive & Forget: I Don't Forget, Does That Mean I Have Not Forgiven? by lonikit: 6:59am On Jul 30, 2017 |
There are lots of things that people do to hurt another. The christian leaders preach that we Should always forgiven and forget. In my own case I easily forgive but I don't forget whatever you have done either to hurt or to impress me. Does the fact that I don't forget mean I have not forgiven the person that hurt me. Is it even possible to forget? 2 Likes |

The human brain is done in such a way that some memories r kept forever. If someone does wrong to you, there is a tendency that that particular thing will come flashing back even if you don't want it to. Truth is, if you hv forgiven someone, you may not forget that thing but if you still harbor hatred or ill feelings because of what he/she had done to you, then there is a problem. 52 Likes 4 Shares |

lonikit: Forget simply means don't habour hatred or revenge after you have forgiven. It doesn't mean you won't have the mental memories from time to time. For me I even choose to keep those memories to keep myself on guard when relating with the same person after I've forgiven him/her. Why?... because you find out that people form habits and usually don't change easily even if they want to or are truely sorry. The implications is that the offense is bound to repeat and even in greater damaging proportion as is seen in most real life cases. So if you keep the memory, you are able to caution the fellow when you see it happening again or you're able to take all precautions to stop it from happening. Example is a beloved relative that steals habitually and apologies afterwards all because he has access to your room because of trust. 27 Likes 2 Shares |

one can truly forgive but the hurt cannot be forgotten. I guess this has to do with our imperfect makeup. 1 Like |

Forgive and forget ke. I wrote about this sometime ago. If you haven't forgotten, you haven't truly forgiven. Total Forgiveness is impossible. I will explain later But we should be more occupied with where our president is and how to forgive him when he comes back!! I have a bad signature 5 Likes |

Even, God reminds us of d sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden though He has forgiven them. You must forgive but you may not forget, no crime in it. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I easily forgive people only when the apologize but when I forgive I don't forget easily. My brain remember stuffs like mad. You not forgetting doesn't mean you have not forgiven it means your brain needs to remember the wrongdoings for them not to happen again. |

You are human. It's going to be hard to forget. The only thing you can do is forgive and try not to remind the person at every turn what he/she did |

The brain cant forget a wrong doing........So I believe when they say "forgive & forget", it means when you forgive, dont go about judging and reporting the person or narrating the wrongful deeds to other people. 1 Like 1 Share |

Only hypocrites will tell you that they do forget. Notionally, there's something like forgive and forget. But literally, there's no such thing, because it's impossible to practice. What's true is that you should not allow the unforgettable after forgiven to influence you in dealing fairly with the other party in future activities. . . This is true forgiveness. 1 Like |

Forgetting doesn't actually mean getting it out of your memory because that's impossible... I feel it just means that when you forgive you shouldn't keep any account if that suffered wrong. |

The ''forget'' in that statement is metaphorical, not literal. It basically means that your forgiveness should be absolute, the guilty should not be reminded of their wrong deeds and even if they consequently offend you, your attitude should not be influenced by the previous. It is impossible to forget, unless you suffer from a brain damage. Heck, I still remember what happened to me when I was 6 years old, so how can I forget what happened now that I am an adult? 3 Likes |

You've forgive. forgiving without forgetting is just like scar after injury. The pain will go but the scar will be there. |

Re: Forgive & Forget: I Don't Forget, Does That Mean I Have Not Forgiven? by Oyoyo7: 10:12am On Jul 30, 2017 |
It is practically impossible to actually forgive and forget. What it means is, whenever you remember or see d person that offended you, you are no longer hurt or feel bad about d person. For example, an individual once deliberately cut you with a cutlass and later asked for your forgiveness. The truth of d matter is, d scar from d cut will always once in a while be noticed by u and there is no way u can forget d cause of d scar but u nolonger feel bad if you have truly forgiven. |
Re: Forgive & Forget: I Don't Forget, Does That Mean I Have Not Forgiven? by axeman10(m): 10:13am On Jul 30, 2017 |
My understanding of "forget" is 'don't use what you have forgiven to act or judge the person in your future dealings'. Give the other party an opportunity to start on a clean slate else you'll always be suspicious which will not be healthy for the relationship, be it business, friendship family...etc..that's the "forgetting". But it does not mean you erase the initial act entirely from your memory, learn from it should a recurrence happen. |

I can only forgive, but forgetting doesnt seem practical or even sensible. If someone attempts to slit my throat but fails, whether the person comes to apologise or not, I can forgive such a person and have no ill feelings towards him/her, but forgetting the threat the person posses to me would be a foolish thing to do, and I refuse to be foolish. 1 Like |

"Forgetness" goes with forgiveness. If you have not forgotten you have not forgiven. I have the same issues with some things. Believe me you are not a good xtian if you don't forget hurts, slights or insults. |
