The invasion of Haiti has begun:

The EU has agreed to send a force of up to 350 police to Haiti, where law and order is precarious following the devastating earthquake.

Spanish EU officials said police from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands would join the force. They will come under UN authority.

The agreement came at a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday.

Thousands of US troops are leading the Haiti relief effort alongside the UN, distributing emergency supplies.

There has been widespread criticism of the delays in getting food, water, medical aid and shelter to the desperate survivors.

The US has poured about 20,000 troops into the earthquake zone and the UN plans to deploy an extra 3,500 police and troops in the area.
