Why medical tourism is on the increase among Nigerians – Dino Melaye

The Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has blamed the failure of political leaders to provide basic health infrastructures across the country for the rising spate of medical tourism among Nigerians.

He made this known when he addressed journalists on the sideline of a fund raising event tagged ‘Nigerians4Nigeria’ organized by Global Initiative for Peace, Love and Care (GIPLC) in Abuja.

According to him, it is a shame that Nigeria, with an estimated population of 200 million, had no cardio-thoracic centre that handles heart emergencies.

The Senator however affirmed the federal government’s commitment to addressing the situation which he described as pathetic and pitiable.

He said: “Nigerians embark on medical tourism and vacations; because there is an outrageously calamitous situation in the health sector in this country. We have a system that is not working.

“Were our health facilities in this country in wonderful shape, we would not need to fly anybody overseas for medical treatment.

“Nigeria with a population of about 200 million people does not have one single cardio-thoracic centre. Today, if there is a heart emergency, the survival rate is zero.

“Ghana has a population of 18 million people yet it is about completing its second national cardio-thoracic centre.

“The most pathetic aspect of it is that we have 34 Nigerian cardiologists currently working in Ghana National cardio-thoracic centre. It is a sorry state.

“I am not in the executive arm of government. I am a legislator but I want to categorically say that the health system in this country is in a very pitiable situation and it didn’t start yesterday and it cannot be solved within four years.

“I tell all the political leaders in this country, myself inclusive, that we have failed in our responsibility of providing basic health infrastructures for the citizens of this country.

“I hope by this democratic evangelism, political leaders in this country will sit-up and fix what needs to be fixed in the health sector.

“But I want to assure you that the APC government is doing all they can within their powers to correct the situation.

“We should give the improvement of health facilities in this country the same drive we are giving the fight against corruption.”

undecided See this motor park tout of a lawmaker, you were not elected to tell us the truth but to make the truth a reality so that Nigerians can live a far better life. So because u re in the legislature and not in the executive the "federal government" is to be blamed for the rot in the health sector. By the way who is the "federal government"? Is the legislature not an arm part of the federal government?

Also does the useless legislature not get money as constituency allowances to finance infrastructural projects? If so should the "federal government" or executive be blamed alone for the infrastructural rot in the country? I recall a useless senator donating toilet on water as her constituency projects or like Shehu Sani that donated camels and radios as his constituency projects. I don't even know what that useless senseless, empty "common sense" senator Ben Bruce has even done for his constituents with his constituency allowance.

As I`ve always said, the national assembly has no business financing projects but to make laws. If the legislature gets constituency allowances, then the judiciary should also get constituency allowances so all the arms of government would allowances to chop.

How can the government have enough money to finance projects when our budget is about 75% on recurrent expenditure and 25% on capital project some of which wud still be embezzled. The useless national assembly gulps as much as 26% of the total budget. That is why the likes of Sarsaki can employ as much as 250 aides for only God knows why.

The docile masses expecting anything good to come out of this useless nation just dey jogodo. You cant expect to do same thing and expect a different outcome. All those pastors proclaiming bright future for a doomed nation are nothing but soothsayers, fraudsters who ve been milking gullible mumuish masses to oil their luxury empire. Jeremiah 5:31, Jeremiah 23:25,26; Lamentations 2:14; Ezekiel 22:28.

I end by saying that Nigeria is hopeless, its future is bleak and soon waiting to cease to exist for good. Nigeria is a disgrace to black race and a waste of space on the map.

The Nigerian military are wasting time and dying in Sambisa to chase Boko Haram when the people worse than Boko Haram are all the goats eating our yams in all the various government houses scattered across this doomed nation.

Most patriotic Nigerian PIDGIN2 and her supporters, I am waiting for your blind objections to the obvious turn of events in this doomed country to prove me wrong.
