obrut:I will definitely find out. Security guys and house helps who do not have ID cards now have account numbers. That I'm aware of. No visitation is done for such small accounts. We need their deposit. In fact, their low cost deposit forms the largest size of a bank's liability position. However, the last time I checked, a customer's request to open a savings account for his child was turned down because the benefactor couldn't present a verifiable identity card. NIMC slip, as at today, I am sure isn't allowed. Maybe tomorrow it will change Thread, bookmarked! |

There are two NIMC Slips; the enrollment slip and the other one that has the NIN (National Identification Number). You can open a tier one Savings account with just a passport photograph and no identification but to operate a full savings account without restrictions, a valid means of identification like the NIMC slip with the NIN is required. 4 Likes 1 Share |

obrut: As from April this year, CBN sent Memo to all banks in Nigeria to that affect ie accepting the NIN as a Valid means of Identification which it is. So any Bank doing otherwise is breaking the exact law, it is your right for banks to accept your NIN slip. So there is no blackmail whatsoever. The 11 digits NIN is verifiable just like US Social security number and most banks have the secured portal. The NIN is more important than the card, the national e-ID card expires in 5 years while your NIN stays all your life. Nigerians seem not to understand where the commission is heading. 1 Like |

johnson232:I Don talk tire. This thing I talk so, as I no know why you quote me? Lol. I get strength for quarrel but I go epp you small. I don't know what Zenith opened for you but I've said what I know. The temporary slip can only be used to open a tier one and two accounts. In fact, for tier one, they can waive the ID stuff but no one will call it tier one savings account for you, the person who opened it knows what he/she did. Shebi Na zero balance account you open? You don't have to answer. |
Re: NIMC's Response To Sterling Bank On Temporary Slip As Means Of Identification by gfullmoon(m): 9:24pm On Aug 17, 2017 |
amicable09: It is verifiable. That is why it is stated in your NIN Slip," The National Identity Number (NIN) is your identify. It is confidential and may only be released for legitimate transactions ". So what do Banks want again. Even with the NIN only, that's 11 digits Number without the NIN Slip paper you can be verified in the secured portal. |

The NIMC slip does not have date of birth on it like every other valid means of identification and there is an N.B clause stated on the slip too. The body should rather work on speeding up the release of the permanent cards and retrieve the temporary slips instead is seeking acceptability of its slips. Only the regulatory bodies can expressly advice banks on acceptable valid ID cards - and NIMC is not one of them. Paragraph 3 of the letter issued by CBN on this stated that the NIN should be confirmed before initiating relationship. Is there any platform on ground for banks to confirn the authenticity of NIN numbers before starting relationship with customers? 2 Likes 1 Share |
