ASABA—Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and the Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, said the people of the state have lots of reasons to celebrate.

Speaking at an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Delta Province 3 Headquarters, Asaba, Governor Okowa said: “As a people, as a state and as a government, we have every reason to celebrate because from August last year, when we marked our silver jubilee, to this year, there is a reasonable restoration of peace, especially in our creeks, where there is no more destruction of pipelines.

“Though the impact of the peace that had returned to the creeks may not have been felt in our economy because the state suffers the effect of a consistently low price of oil for more than 38 months and the quantum produced, there is hope that it will be better. “We are grateful to the church for the prayers, we are thankful to the youths for sheathing their swords, we thank our traditional rulers for their interventions and to all those who worked for peace to return to our state, we say thank you.”

The Speaker
Also, the Speaker, Mr. Oborevwori, congratulated the people of the state, saying the state had made tremendous progress at 26. Oborevwori, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Dennis Otu, implored Deltans to continue to support the administration of Governor Okowa in his effort to make the state better for all.

He said: “Our dear Delta State has made tremendous progress in the last 26 years of its creation. Development has spread to all parts of the state and this has reduced the cry of marginalisation by communities in the state.

“The strength of Delta State today at 26 years is our unity and so I am using this occasion of our anniversary to implore Deltans to continue to live in peace with one another. “We cannot afford to fail our founding fathers. We should maintain the existing ethnic harmony in the state as this is the only way to attract more investors to the state.”

A 26 years old boy in advance country should be standing almost on his own now, if not fully {Not talking about Nigeria because if care is not taking at 33 he will still be in his father's house}. so i expect the state to be standing on his feet in terms of self dependence ( Internally Generated Revenue should sustain the state 55%) and not depending on FG to pay salaries and some other small infrastructural projects.

Considering doing a roof parapet?
check out price comparison between a concrete cast in suite against polystyrene parapet.
Polystyrene parapet is light weight and doesn't have much impact on the land.
excellent usage on swampy environment.

What stupid reason is that? What have we achieved at 26?

The little we have was provided by Ibori, yet he stole a lot. Uduaghan completely messed up the system. Okowa is just like a puppy there.

Delta State should be visited again by EFCC.

I predict that the speaker Sheriff Oborevwori will be the next governor of Delta state.

Someone should save this comment for future reference

Delta state may have made a lot of things, progress is not really one of them.

After all your governors looted the funds to depletion, you are here talking about low oil prices.

If not for your daftness and greed, will you be complaining about that.

Dubai is an oil state(city) like yours, with even less natural resources, see what they've been able to do.

This should be a time for sober reflection. Look at the state of illiteracy and poverty.

How will a state like Delta be waiting for FG allocation before paying salaries. Shame. After all the billions collected all these years.

Celebrate what and who?

Ibori, Uduaghan, Tompolo or who?

Or celebrate commissioning filling stations and shopping malls,

Kogi and Delta should be a model of Bad Governance and Stockholm Syndrome,

If Delta state had been well governed, states like Ogun and Oyo should be going there for refresher courses on governance but come 2019, it is still PDP all the way in that state.

I really feel for them there.

Under same 38 months, far poorer states like Gombe and Osun commissioned more land mark projects than Delta had in the past 10 years,

Okowa could not even mention one particular project, just ONE completed,

I just pity Niger Deltan because (as the major layers of the golden eggs) they do not deserve these kinds of bad leaders.

Celebrate what?

I rep Delta State but I must admit, we've had the worst in state governance since the beginning of democracy, Ibori included.

We have all the God-given resources yet we seem to be dominated by the Satan-given individuals who hold sway.

From politics to economics, all processes are determined by thuggery.

I'm ashamed of my state.
