The intellectuals in the country (in both sides ie Biafra's and one nigerianers) should debate on that and chose what's better for them
I think any well meaning human will choose referendum instead of war

Yes, War will be easier option than referendum. Since referendum was not inserted into our constitution, it can only be inserted through a constitutional amendment. You know the requirements for constitutional amendment - 2/3 of all state Assemblies must adopt the amendment, apart from 2/3 of the national assembly. Do you even think all the Igbo state of assemblies will agree to inset referendum in our constitution?
But if there is war and you are able to either defeat Nigeria or at least hold her to a stale mate, Nigeria would have to allow you secede. That Was how all other newly African countries that seceded got their secession after decades of war.
