It is man who decided to believe the word of a total stranger (the serpent) over that of the One who gave him life. When he was convinced to eat the fruit what did he do? He not only ate, he gave his wife to eat also. None of them even remembered to verify what the serpent had told them before eating.
Now after eating and finding themselves naked, they could have run to God to ask for forgiveness, but what did they do? They hid themselves in shame. Now God who has already known everything that happened because he is all seeing and all knowing, decided to still come look for them and ask for an explanation. ( Its like those days when your mom has already known what you did but just wants you to come clean so she can forgive you. ) But again they blew the chance. Adam pointed at Eve and Eve pointed at Satan. No one took responsibility. No one asked for forgiveness. So they are banished.
(Remember, your father may angrily tell you, "leave my room!", but he's still your father, he'll still clothe, feed, school and protect you.) So even as they are banished, God still was with them.
Fastforward many years later, they are fighting, maiming, raping and killing themselves over resources that were already in abundance, they are producing all sorts of new technologies that only ends up destroying them and their children, now they have almost totally destroyed the earth, the next destination is Mars. And all these while God has been chasing them to come back to Him, only few provide listening ears.
