Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs Alhassan Aisha Alhassan has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to keep his promise of ruling for only one term, saying she would resign if he sought another mandate in 2019.

The comments by the minister could heighten uncertainty over whether Buhari plans to contest the next election.

The 74-year-old took power in 2015, but has been absent for the better part of 2017 due to an unspecified illness. He has been away on medical for more than five months combined, to seek medical treatment in London.
