Anytime the Christian Association of Nigeria raises concern about the subtle Islamic agenda in Nigeria, some people call the CAN leadership all sort of names. The declaration of public holiday in some states for the beginning of the Islamic year is against the norm in a nation that claims not to be Islamic, like ours.

Let it be known to the Nigerian Muslims that January 1 is not the beginning of the year and neither is the current calendar in use in our nation, a Christian one, if we were to go by the Jewish calendar. We inherited a western calendar from our colonial masters and this is what has been in use for ages in our national history. While only a handful of states are currently observing the needless public holiday, it's only a matter of time before more states join and the holiday is smuggled into our national calendar just like prophet Muhammed's birthday which was never observed as a public holiday in Nigeria decades back.

It used to be Osun State alone in the southwest before now, but our Al-Qaeda governor has convinced his Oyo state counterpart to do the same today. Even some more Islamic states and nations would neither observe public holidays for the beginning of Islamic calendar or the prophet's birthday, so one wonders why our dear nation keeps smuggling needless religious events and public holidays into our national calendar.

If these holidays must be incorporated into our calendars, I think the Christian community should demand for recognition of the beginning of the Jewish calendar (which is the root of Christianity) as a public holiday, and other religious groups (e.g. Ecankar, Traditional religion) should do the same for their founders' birthdays or calendar years.

This way, our stupidity as a nation will obvious even to the blind and audible to the deaf.

I don't know which bible you are reading or the person that discipled you. If Judaism is not the root of Christianity, what is? Christianity stemmed out of Judaism if you must know. Do you even know that the old testament is all about Judaism. You can as well tell me that the 10 commandments in the old testament, which Jesus later modified into two in the new testament, are not religious laws of Judaism. I can also assume that you don't read or believe the old testament.

One wonders what sort of Christians we have these days. Christians with shallow knowledge of what and who they profess.

What Muslims call the beginning of the Islamic calendar is the same as the beginning of the Jewish calendar, since they are in the same region and descended from the same Patriarch Abraham just like the Christians. Labelling the day as the beginning of Islamic year is offensive, exclusive and against our adopted national (western) calendar.
