As part of initiatives to foster mutual bilateral relationship between Nigeria and South Africa, an international school for visually impaired is set to be established in Oyo State.

The South Africa Deputy Minister for Social Development, Ms. Bogopane Zulu disclosed this on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, during a courtesy visit to the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.

Ms. Zulu explained that the proposed international school for physically impaired was consequent upon an agreement reached by former President Goodluck Jonathan and President Jacob Zulu, following the academic feat of a visually impaired Nigeria child.

The Deputy Minister noted that the project which would be funded and executed by the Dangote foundation was expected to be commissioned by President Jacob Zuma and handed over to President Mohammadu Buhari next year with the aim of improving people-to-people relationship between the two Countries.

The deputy Minister explained that the choice of Oyo State as the State to site the School was borne of the convenient Geographical location and historical feat of the State in educational development.

In his response, the State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Moses Adeyemo assured the delegation from South Africa that the State Government would allocate choice expanse of land for the project while reiterating the commitment of the present administration to social welfare and development particularly as it concerns people with physical challenges.

The Governor also used the opportunity to preach against xenophobic attack in South Africa, adding that Africans should always be united in brotherhood.

In her contribution, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Atinuke Osunkoya, said the present administration has been showing concerns for the physically challenged through some of her Programme as it had provided empowerment and trainings to over 1000 people with physical disability.

Gift items were later exchanged between Oyo State and South African Government.
