The South-South zonal leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has set up a three-man committee to reposition the party in Rivers State with a view to taking power from the incumbent, Governor Nyesom Wike in 2019.

The National Vice Chairman, south-south of the party, Ntufam Hilliard Eta, who announced the committee in Port Harcourt during a meeting of the zonal body, charged the committee to “establish commonality for all divergent interests and ensure that the APC approaches the 2019 polls with victory in mind.”

The committee, which is headed by former Edo Governor, Adams Oshiomhole also has former chieftain of petroleum workers union, Chief Frank Kokori, as well as a former Minister, Obonganwan Rita Akpan as members.

“APC cannot afford to lose Rivers in view of its critical role in stabilizing the zonal politics of the south-south. Like Lagos in the South West, Rivers State can become the epicentre of political stability for the south-south.

“Victory for the party in 2019 will further boost and restore the image of the zone as the stabilizer of the nation’s politics after the disruptions of 2015. It is necessary that the south-south finds itself back in the mainstream political arena for which the 2015 disruptions had shifted it. Rivers State will be significant in setting the pace being the jewel in the crown of the zone”, he said.

The APC chieftain emphasised the need for all stakeholders to remain united and resolute in pursuing victory, adding that the Comrade Oshiomhole-led committee would have the task of bridging whatever gulf of interest which could have existed among the stakeholders for victory to be achieved.

The chairman expressed delight that the zonal body has recorded tremendous feats by securing additional national and state assembly seats either through defections or court verdicts.

Earlier, Senators Magnus Abe, Andrew Uchendu and Hon. Chidi Worga had appealed to the zonal leadership to ensure that the party in the state was properly guided in order to guarantee elections victory during the 2019 polls with all the stakeholders remaining united and focused.
