our senators and reps budget over N120billion on themselves and aids every year! They are less than 1% of total population. We can acheive it if we effectively block our losses to politicians and their aids.
Okay, let's us collect that 120 billion from them and add it to the 780 billion Naira FG annual wage bill. We have 900 billion Naira.

Does that come close to funding the 3.5 trillion Naira annual wage bill that a monthly salary of 100k will require?

Hehehehe grin grin grin grin Double that 900 billion (1.8 trillion Naira) and you will still be far from it. grin grin

I can still recall some months ago when the minister of finance said that FG spends 65 billion on wages every month, which is about 780 billion per annum. Increasing salary by over 455 percent will be increasing it to over 3.5 trillion per annum. Those nations you guys are using as yardsticks, do you really know how much their annual budgets are for just military alone? Or just health alone?

This is funny man grin grin grin

It should be obvious that both state govts and the FG are struggling to pay current wages, yet we are hearing calls for a quintupling of wages. They seem to think that there is a bottomless pit full of money that our govt can access. None of the recent debt-financing news, such as the plan to borrow $5.5bn, has shaped their reasoning.

For those who talk about corrupt legislators and govt officials, such talk is a red herring. Ending the greed of our rulers would not be sufficient to balance our books. What this hints at is the flawed belief Nigerians have that corruption alone explains our underdevelopment. Nigerians think once you end corruption, everything will be fine. It is this way of reasoning that paved the way for Buhari to become president.

Reality is more nuanced: corruption is just one of many obstacles. Policy ineptitude is a bigger problem and yes, awarding significant increases in salary that strain govt finances is a good example of policy ineptitude.

Thatsvseeiously how it ought to be, but you know how people in Nigeria are:

1) Employees will start wasting time to do jobs they could have finished much quicker. Just because they want to drag the time spent for a while longer and earn more pay. Unless there's a specific 'milestone' of work expected to be completed in an hour, I'm not sure that'll work.

2) Its an avenue for employers to cheat employees too. By claiming they haven't done as much time as they claim they have. Its hard to investigate when an employer makes such claim and thus they'll be making more profit without having to pay out all of what they really should.

That' the essence of rules and regulations...
When there is a regulation on working hours limits and defaulters will be penalized... There will be cooperation.

just that our currency is almost valueless. If my one naira yesterday can afford goods of 50 naira today,I will be satisfied with my one naira. Even if they increase it to N100,000,the money still can't afford much!!! That is why Nigerians are clamouring for more money instead of clamouring for increase in the real value of the naira! Imagine $1=N365!!! Having just 2 bills of $100 is N36,500!
LOL grin grin

Those countries's currencies can give other currencies in the world a run for their money.

You wonder why those oil companies pay as high as 300k at entry level? They don't earn in Naira. Those guys are virtually working abroad, just that they're based in Nigeria. grin grin

Your 3.5 trillion Naira is just for the FG's wage bill. State governments will also have to pay the proposed wage increase.

Did you ask your friend how much he spends per month(housing, food ect)?

He's a college student.... He stays at his uncle's place..he only spends on food and clothing then a bit on his fees.

He was able to save up to buy a land worth #1.2M down here After 2 yrs or so.

Truth is...their minimum wage is $10.... wealth is evenly distributed.... And the gap between the rich and poor is well check mated.

If I understand them right, they are referring to monthly payment for an employee with the minimum qualification like FLSC . In that case, 30k isn't that bad cos people with higher credential will earn more, especially teachers

Let's assume all that is 1 trillion per annum.

Add the 1 trillion to the 900 billion we already have. We have 1.9 trillion. That still doesn't come close to 3.5 trillion Naira for just one year grin grin grin

noooooooo!!! Not per annum! That is monthly! Convert it to dollars and u will realise that I am right. If only 1trillion naira is stolen annually by Nigerian politicians, the people wont complain or cry at all. They will even organise thanksgiving service!

I will prefer making it a minimum of N500/hour for unskilled and semi-skilled. That will motivate workers to be more productive. Suppose a worker works 10hours a day,it will be equivalent to N5,000 while for 20 days will be a minimum of N100,000. At an exchange rate of N360/dollar,this N100,000 is roughly $278 which isnt too much. Any worker that offers zero hour of work will get zero income. If u go on strike for no justifiable reasons,u also get zero income. Hourly payment is a better option.

it depends on both the empoyee and the employer agreement. If an employer wants an employee to work for 3 hours, then the employer must be ready to pay for 3 hours. If the employer realises that the employee isnt working the rightful amount of work, the employer can easily cancel the remaining work and pay for the hours already done. This method is aslo flexible for the employee. He can decide to work 4hours for Mr A and 5 hours for Mr B.

Well, that doesn't always work. Let's say your bricklayer who is paid per hour is very slow and he already mixed a large amount of cement. Will you terminate his work like that?

If only dollar will be 120 den is ok for the 30k but not when dollar is 360+ no way 100k is manageable
Re: Labour Rejects N30,000 Minimum Wage Offer By House Of Representatives by agog: 4:02pm On Oct 15, 2017
This agreement works better in an highly industrialised countries where unskilled and semi skilled workers work in manufacturing industries feeding machine with raw materials or removing finished goods from production line. Here in Nigeria, most people in this category work in service industry which are difficult to place on hourly wages like a company security or gate man or a car washer.

See how easy it is for you to say "minimum of N100,000". angry Take your calculator and do simple mathematics before talking outside of reality.

You think you can jack up that cleaner's wages to 100k without jacking up the Doctor's own by the same or almost the same percentage? undecided

From 18k to 100k is about 456% increase in salary. That means you should be ready to increase the Doctor's own by at least 300%. You should be thinking of increasing the wages of a doctor on 180k salary to 720k salary (300% increase).

Just reason am bros. Does it make sense to you? undecided

He's talking about hourly payments while you are fixated on monthly salary. It's not the same thing bro. In his own view you get paid for hours you put in. Also you are assuming cleaners are at the bottom of the ladder. Most companies don't hire cleaners, they outsource them. Clerical officers are on level 3 in my office..1 and 2 are obsolete.

Its not that simplistic. There's a max no of hours you can do.

You get paid for the max only if you have not exited from work space during the period.

A lot of automation will be required though. Because your entry and exit will be monitored with software..

I guess you missed the point. Did you see where he mentioned "minimum of N100,000" per month? That's where the point is. That's where the maths is. Forget that per hour thing attached. It still boils down to monthly salary, which he said will be at least 100k if the worker maintains his required working schedule.

We're actually talking about FG here, not private companies because private companies won't even listen to you. LOL grin grin Companies still pay 15k per month till date. Some even pay less than that. They can't pay what they don't have na. grin grin

Even the outsourced workers you're talking about, they are still workers o. So if you are to have a minimum wage rate for all workers, they MUST be included.

NLC, we should trust you for once, should,nt we? We like the total rejection of the miserable 30k the wicked, vampire lawmakers are offering. Please stand on the 56k or down tools. There is huge money for the leaders to steal from while the hard working masses are suffering because governors steal their salaries. Why should governors wickedly refused to pay salaries even when they were given bailout fund? The governors, Vampires, why should they steal and bury in the cemetary? hide in water tanks, under beds, empty houses, shopping malls, villages and other places while workes and pensioners are dying? NLC, workers, i believe are ready to wait for you to fight (GROUND GOVERNMENT ESTABLISHMENTS) provided you don't compromise like the previous ones who called off strike while people still occupied Gani park, we heard because they threatened them to pay back 500m# housing grant given to them if they don't call off the strike. Please don't sellout. Workers love you all.
