tsdarkside:a socialist system does not allowed a life leader like in north Korea. In socialist system, the government provide for the citizens like Free education, free social amenities like water, light and transportation, and in many Case the government subsidies food. Socialist system is the best form of government which also allowed the citizens to have their say and vote for whom to lead them, unlike in north Korea that does not provide for his citizens or to have their say, or to allowed election. 2 Likes |

Democracy is not suitable for any 3rd world or underdeveloped country. it is meant for the developed countries. Africa should search for a system for government that is suitable for them, and that will support growth and eliminate corruption. we must not follow the west in everything they do. Our case study should be Asia. 1 Like |

So you don't know that GREED was the reason why communism was embraced by the poor in those days. Anyway I know you are well informed, you dont need to be afraid of communism, are you no longer a Christian?. |

tsdarkside: I see a few things need to be made clear here. Capitalism is an economic system that encourages private ownership of the means of production. The exchange of products in the capitalist free market is based on prices determined by how much value the buyers and the sellers place on the product. The main role of government in the capitalist system is the protection of individual rights to ownership of the means of production. Socialism is state ownership of the means of production. In practice, it is basically a command economy. You'd find socialist governments nationalizing private property for administration by the state. This system is what Karl Marx claimed was going to be the intermediate phase between capitalism and communism. Communism is an economic system that is supposed exist in a stateless society where the means of production is owned by the community. The rise of the proletariat in the socialist setting is expected to get rid of its ruling elite and force socialism to birth communism thereby creating a utopia where everyone owns everything, and each person works according to their ability but receives according to their needs. What is the implication of the above? It is obvious that true communism has never been tried, at least since Marx' communist manifesto was published. Some would say this is so because true communism can never be tried. Socialism never gets to pave the way for communism. Why is this so? Some reasons could be 1. The state bureaucrats make everything inefficient over time, and there are no economic rewards to incentivize individuals towards making the system efficient. So scarcity becomes the norm in socialist societies in the long term. 2. The all powerful state leadership is made up of human beings. Those flawed creatures prone to addictions, of which power is among the most tempting. Power tends to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Naturally, these flawed humans among whom power is concentrated become dictators. It is what too much power does to people, and if you think about it, uprisings on account of economic scarcity are much more easier to crush in an authoritarian regime than in a democracy. To place China of the last 60 years in proper context, it was socialist from the 50s to the 70s, even though the leaders proclaimed themselves communists. That's what the typical politician does - use tags that deceive the people into believing they care. The costly failures of socialism forced China to adopt a more capitalist model for their economy which has led to significant growth in the last 30 years. Although the dictatorship, a vestige of socialism, still somewhat exists in China today, the economy is very capitalist. Private individuals own a huge portion of the means of production. Russia is not communist and has never been. The USSR was socialist, and the failures of socialism led to the perestroika reforms of the 80s. Russia is now a mixed economy with the dictatorial residues from socialism. |
