We should ask ourselves a simple and concise question? What brings about unity ? I believe a group or a society that possesses the spirit of togetherness and who ensures a positive outcome is derived from their good venture they have decided to make the source of their existence.
So what is Unity? Unity is the state or fact of being one undivided entity that shares in the same idea.It could be a country,a political party ,a pressure group or even a church. .Having a collective group of people in an enclosed entity is not the primary and utmost objective, but it is the ideology that forms the purpose of her activeness and the willingness of her members to uphold it to the latter, irrespective of the obstacles that may come as an unpredicted storm that may hinder the progress of it's achievements.
In a country like Nigeria ,what can be said of our ideology that keeps our train moving? Do we believe in honesty, fair hearing ,integrity, transparency and equal human rights? Do we share this equal belief, that it is the roles and responsibilities of our leaders to provide social, commercial and basic amenities, like good roads, good quality health care, constant electricity supply and other modern infrastructures ? Instead of the outrageous conception of this roles being a favor to Nigerians ,which has been borne by many Nigerians over the years. Do we believe that different parts of our country should be equally and sophisticatedly developed? This can be achievable if we pay less concern to our religious, ethnic and tribal differences. The interest of a country should be put first before other marginal issues, and if our leaders have falling short of their promises embedded in their campaign speeches and manifestoes, then we should rise as a courageous and independent unit to oppose this unfulfilled promises, and make them pay and account for their lackadaisical and languid attitude that is being displayed to the Nigeria populace .
Since we gained independence in the year 1960 ,disunity has been the bane of Nigeria's existence, ranging from religious, ethnic and political violence, that has become a normalcy in our political system.Even among the tiers of the Nigerian government, disunity has grown into a cancer that cannot be eradicated, just because of greed ,thirst for power and the absence of political, economic and scientific vision on the part of our Leaders.
.It is so unfortunate, that vast majority of the the Nigerian populace look up to them to display the charismatic evidence of transparency, humility and integrity,so that Nigerians can follow suit. But I am not amazed and electrified on the inability of the Nigerian Government to exemplify the qualities and the attributes of leadership in all spheres of life relating to our modern world .If they cannot put their house in order then, how can they incorporate unity into the minds of Nigerians? As it is popularly said "charity begins at home".
An official position should be accommodating to all, irrespective of your religion or ethnicity,as long as a person possesses the knowledge and the technical know-how to achieve a qualitative and a quantitative result concerning the task that has been assigned to him or her,and should not be given to a particular person or a group of people just because they are friends or family members of political appointees and associates, just like what is happening in our Government and private agencies today, which has contributed to the backwardness and the dark times of Nigeria.
So I implore the vibrant youths and the younger generation of our great country to shun tribalism, nepotism and favoritism. To exert a massive attitude of togetherness in fighting for what is rightfully ours .To exhibit the true character of an evolved and scientific mind, irrespective of your locality and municipality.
Above all, we should be visionary in our day to day disposition ,with the light of a flamboyant mind and an audacious character, to dine in the same ideology and core values, that can govern and guide us in the same and familiar line of prosperity and blissfulness .I hereby appeal to our youthful conscience to learn from the mistakes of our fathers ,grandfathers and our forefathers ,because we would not want our children or grandchildren to antagonize us with questions partaining to the awkwardness in the structure of our socio-economic ,political and cultural environment .
So as promising leaders,we should believe in our strength ,fortitude and initiative ,which will enable us to discharge our collective responsibility in an active manner, and not in a dormant ,visionless and passive manner.
In conclusion, I suggest, we inhibit unity as an anthem to be recited and sung on the walls of our minds, to remind us of the greatness we were created by God to achieve .
God bless Nigeria . PEACE.
