The Nigerian police force has a ranking system which you may not easily decipher seeing as they’re wearing the same uniform.

The ranks of Nigerian police officers are loosely based on that of the British and other Commonwealth police forces although there are variations. The positions and ranks within the Police service are broadly divided into those of superior officers and subordinate officers or other ranks.
The first badge indicates the cadet inspector, the second indicates the unconfirmed inspector while the third badge indicates a confirmed inspector. The fourth is for the principal inspectors and the last is reserved for the chief inspectors.

The first picture is for an assistant superintendent who’s on probation while the second is for the assistant superintendent.

There’s the badge for an assistant commissioner, a deputy commissioner and the commissioner himself.
And likewise, assistant inspector general, a deputy inspector general and an Inspector general. Here are some badges that tell the rank of the police officer you’re dealing with, and this can be found on their shoulders.

1. Corporal

2. Sergeant

3. Sergeant Major

4. Inspector
