Update (1430): Gregory Yenlong, the state ’s commissioner for information, in an interview with the AFP, confirmed the attack, stating, "I can confirm that 13 people have died while six others have been critically injured, and those wounded are now being treated at a missionary hospital in Vom, near Jos." The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police in Plateau State, Lerama Mohammed, also told the AFP that they had received reports that the attacks were carried out by Fulani herdsmen. "We received reports of an overnight attack on Riyom, by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, ” he said. "Our men are already there to assess the causality and the situation." ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- --------------------------- Troubled Plateau State experienced yet another wave of violence in the early hours of Wednesday, March 17, with at least 11 people killed in Riyom, just outside Jos, state radio was reported as saying. Speaking to NEXT over the phone, Davou Rwang, a resident of Jos, said, "It is true. We heard 11 people have been killed in Ryom, just outside of Jos." Another resident, who lives around Jos and asked not to be named, told us that the attacks were carried out by some groups. "There were carried out by three groups because three villages were attacked," he said. “They also set houses ablaze." The police said they have begun investigating the incident. This latest killing comes only days after the Army said it had intercepted a truck conveying 44 people suspected to be militants, on their way to Jos. Jos was rocked by violence 10 days ago, when mostly women and children were killed at night, in another settlement just outside the city. The March 7 violence occurred weeks after hundreds died in four days of sectarian violence. God help dis ppl |

We need to find a permanent solution to this. as long as we keep pretending all is well after each attack with one side blaming the other, there will keep being reprisal attacks. God bless the dead! |

Seriously, this is getting annoying. . Abeg no tribe should be allowed to feel they have the sole monopoly of killing ppl at will, this is becoming more like a war to me. At this point, a reprisal attack is justifiable. . . If there cant be equal disarmament then there should be equal armament and terror enough of all the rubbish! |

I agree no ethnic group in Nigeria has a monopoly on violence. These Hausa need to be put in their place. |

Why are people especially the people from Jos acting all surprise? Did they not know that the Hausa-Fulani murderers are capable of such? Afterall these same murderers following the footsteps of their fore fathers have been killing since Islam came to this part of Africa. They should learn from the Igbos living in the North to sleep with their eyes open. |
