THE Umuneke Progressive Front (UPF) has faulted the former governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sullivan Chime over his criticism of the last weekend’s local government election in the state.

The group, which is the premier umbrella organisation for all the communities in Chime’s Udi clan, described the former governor as “a bad loser”, insisting that the 4th November election was the best by any administration in Enugu State since 1999. UPF added that the former governor did not deserve more than the 19 votes, which he garnered for his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his polling booth.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu, President of the group, Hon. Emeka Aneke, dismissed allegations of irregularities in the last council leveled on the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by the former governor. UPF alleged that Chime ran an autocratic leadership in which party faithful and stakeholders had no inputs whatsoever into the councillorship and chairmanship candidates of the party.

“Again, unlike now that he had the opportunity to cast ballot at his polling booth, did he ever allow his processor, Chimaroke Nnamani, the opportunity to cast any vote? ENSIEC under Sullivan Chime was anything but independent as there was no semblance of election,” the group said, because he superintended over selections,” they emphasised.

They described Chime as “a noisy neighbour, trying to appease disappointed APC national leaders, who mistakenly thought they had captured an elephant in him, not knowing that he remains a political featherweight, who will never be able to win his polling unit”.

“We wonder how a man who could not win a senatorial seat as a sitting governor or touch the lives of his people positively for the eight years expected to be rewarded with undeserved votes by the same people he oppressed and talked down on. “His eight years as governor were a colossal waste to our people, hence his father’s status was brought down even while he was governor (although UPF does not support such extreme venting of anger and disappointment)” the statement added.

They said the PDP under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi would continue to make a clean sweep of the polls even if conducted a million times as people like the ex-governor were a liability to the APC since he bequeathed only mountains of foreign and local debts as well as unpaid workers salaries and pension benefits to the elderly.

“We advise our brother, former governor Chime to climb down from his high horse and tell his party the truth about his disastrous outing in the council poll, starting from the abysmally loss at his polling booth”, UPF concluded.
