Doesn't look good. The DISCOs should work out their own restructuring plans based on each ones business model. The less involvement of government in public utilities the better in the long run

4yrs old and yet to come up with a restructuring plan!

They were bought by cronies, to siphon govt funds!

AEDC is very ineffective. No prepaid meter. Always disturbing with estimated bills. Cutting light if estimated bill is not paid. angry angry

This is the more reason the DISCOs should meter their customers. Prepaid meter will solve that like magic.
It won't sir, i know of a particular house for over a year now they have been consuming energy free due to meter bypass... It's really unfair to the Discos

If the government want the power sector to be really transformed then the government should purchase enough metres n make sure every consumer is connected to a metre while the consumers pay for the metre over time gradually, the way the sector is right now is certainly not encouraging to investors simple.

Why must it be the government that would buy the meters? why can't the Discos buy them and come up with a payment plan by the customers.
Do you know that you have to bribe their officials to get the meters?
They are reluctantly rejecting power generated by gencos claiming they can't recoup the money if they distribute.
Bottomline is all these politicians playing with power sector are not serious, simply because they never payed enough to acquire the investments.

Actually it will solve it.
The main headache of discos is collecting payment for customers, the prepaid meter customers are the easiest part, they pay before service. The few that bypass the meter can be policed by the same staff who go about collecting payment from non-metered customers.
Do you know how many power is wasted between discos and gencos because the discos reject the power?
For example if they are to double electricity distribution, those with prepaid meter will automatically consume double their units. But those without the meter won't agree to pay double.

That is a good warning To put the discos. On their toes

However, the attitude of nigerians towards payment of electricity Bills especially those in the villages is not encouraging nd will continue to hinder the progress of. Discos
easy just install meters and if they tamper with the meter the fine is 100k and lock them up until they pay it.

you have a strong n valid point there but again just as you pointed out in other to avoid excuses n excessive exploitation from the discos government need to do it,besides it's government responsibilities to defend the public interest, the metres are not going to be free n government will then have the leverage to apply some coercion on the discos also,I still think that critically the government should do it.

There are smart prepaid meters that can be installed outside the house. They can also have monitoring teams that can carry out scheduled inspections on installed meters.

Please come and take over the Disco in Owerri. They are so notorious for their poor services.
Imagine using keke napep to carry their ladder. The good old days of NEPA are sorely missed. At least they had qualified staff, these people have sacked all the experienced engineers they inherited. They hire people they can pay #30,000. EEDC is the terrible thing we remember Jonathan for, selling assets to a known crook.

In the case of electricity meters, EEDC will be the last people to help you get anything. They prefer estimating your bill so they can continue to rip you off. Go and ask anyone living in Owerri.
Wow shocked shocked shocked shocked

Its just like you took this comment off my mouth, its the same thing i wanted to say,Electricity in Owerri is too bad and once your light gets spoilt you have to wait for like one week for them to even come and check it out and Another one week for them to fix it

I agree with your points bro, it's difficult monitoring because some just put a resistor inside... You wouldn't even know save you loose the meter... But metering every customer will go a long way

Yeah but we can't keep wasting power already generated like this.
