The Canada that you're citing as an example, did they do it because of crime rate?

Yes they did amongst other reasons... It was one of the factors in the consultation - the policy was developed after consultations with over 15,000 participants with global/ international development in mind.

While I agree that women should have a higher number of representation in government and have more voice in decision making, your point that they should be prioritized is wrong.

In fighting partriachy, we should be careful not to raise another type of evil. Women should have equal choice and not favored. Give a level playing field and allow everyone be able to slug it out.

As for women in government, I think it is important as there are decisions that men might not get because life is a bubble and a lot of people see life from their own point, we miss some key issues; take sanitary pads for examples. There has been a campaign for it to be free or atleast subsidized for women as it is an essential health material.

How can we subside condoms when sex is optional but ignore sanitary pads when half the population face it monthly whether or not they like it (except when you take drugs to move it). There are things men just dont get about women because we are simply not women.

So yes, we need a feminist approach. More female representation, more female voices, paying more attention to their needs, complaints and create laws and do more to make their lives safer, better and easier

As for crime, beter laws on harrassments, laws on domestic violence, inheritance and rights.

Crime against women continue since because the people that they can get away with these crimes. I don type too much
valid points

Go through your points again carefully. You have noted that the proceeds of the male crime are spent on women. If women are the ultimate beneficiaries of crime, it means they are the cause and instigators of the so called male crime.

You should be calling for a re education of the men folk to stop slaving for the the women. Let them work for their living. Nature has blessed them with too many powers already, giving them extra powers in official government will amount to killing off the men who are already enslaved enough.
You have made very good and salient points. This is a very good suggestion you have proposed. Re-education of the male folks should start in the secondary schools. Good point!

@ mynd44.You have not addressed the topic. Also please note I am neither leaning right nor left just presenting the topic for discussion.

If women commit less crime then they should lead men in that regard and teach them the way to less crime.

No?
crime isnt about who is leading, its about the people being led!

Totally DISAGREE.

Reason why?

Women cannot handle power!

Reason why?

Women lack the basic rationality that is expected of leaders!

Reason why?

Women are wholly myopic.

Am sick of all this feminist propaganda. If any man treats you like a slave, free yourself from his shackles. If you want to be heard then stand out, men will be men so will women be women. Those stories you read in the crime section, did you not also see that of a woman indulge in violence? Though not as high compared to their male counterpart. That should tell you a lot. As for more women in power, that's a totally wrong perspective of seeing things. Why not better people(male or female) in power. If they diligently do their job then who cares if it's a male or female.
Thank you

This thread is about about constructive ways to handle high crime rates in Nigeria - mostly perpetrated by the men - not about gender equality.

My suggestion was a feminist approach - what if we tried female bus drivers and female conductors with male police officers on each bus to tackle one chance robberies? What if marriage was de-emphasized in Nigeria so men feel less financial pressures which could lead them into crime - this way men work for their money and women work for their money. What if aggressive/ toxic male behavior instead of being accepted as "what makes you a man" becomes frowned upon.

We need more suggestions like holocrons.

Yes to TRUE feminism. Men and women should work equally for their living. Men should be reeducated the ways girls are educated to curb their libido, and women reeducated to stop the sexual exploitation of men.
exactly! do people commit crime because of 1 women or several women? it should be about the criminal not what the proceeds is spent on. How does rehabs work? its about education because they know when they are released, the drugs are still available to be bought. the treat the patient and not empower drugs.

This is sexist!!!

Now, personally, I don't care about feminism, but that's just plain sexist!!!

Both genders have certain toxic behaviors...stop emphasizing the male!!! Let's assume the 'toxic male behavior' is curbed, what happens to the female one?

toxic male behavior is defined as: unnecessary aggressive behaviors that are praised as what makes one a man - e.g. beating a wife as a way of exercising authority, dangerous driving to exhibit control etc.

Women are myopic? Wrongest. They are long range strategic planners, far more than men.

All these defects u noted are clever ruses the womenfolk has traditionally used to pull the wool over the eyes of men, to the fact of the very clever control they exert on men, and how they ruthlessly use men to sustain and maintain themselves in relative comfort while the men suffer and slave for them in the mistaken notion of machismo.

Another powerful contribution. Thank you.

The objective of this thread is to see how the women folk can help reduce high crime rates in Nigeria. This is a good thing. Why should this not be welcome?

A man does not experience the pain of child birth or the labor in caring for a child. A man can shoot another man or woman because his ego was bruised - because he does not know what it means to be a mother or care for a child and did NOT experience the pain of child birth.

The motherly love of women for their male and female children makes women (more specifically mothers or family oriented women) superior to men from a violence reduction perspective. This is a hypothesis though.

The overwhelming majority of violent crimes are committed by men in Nigeria - from terrorism (BH), to armed robberies to organized crime syndicates. Also most wars have been triggered by males.

A Feminist Approach will not help matters. Just as the males have failed so will the females.

The females will fight for women rights, provide enabling environment for learning and co-habiting with others for the girl-child but as usual, the focus will be on the female gender alone. Just as my oga Mynd44 said, give them more places in government but do not favour them over the males.

I pray if one day this happens, the feminists will concentrate their efforts to the North East and other areas of Nigeria to stop female suicide bombing, domestic violence meted out to males, kidnapping e.t.c. Anyone that says Women are not as criminal as men,i will say:
Cobwebs are gathering in your brain embarassed
suicide bombing has not been proven to be carried out wilfully knowing fully the ramifications of their actions.

I don't know.

Maybe you are speaking for yourself but I don't see how women have enslaved me.

If you are a weak man or you wholly decide to subject or allow yourself to be enslaved by a woman, just know that it is your choice.

This female power you're kind of hyping here is pretty much limited as it is primarily based or related to sex.

Remove the sex and the woman is totally inconsequential in the scheme of things in your life as a man.

Re: Feminist Approach To Government And Leadership Will Reduce Crime In Nigeria by Amhappy(f): 11:49am On Nov 20, 2017
No way. I don't think that will reduce crime in any way. Men do not make money illegally to please females but also to show off and intimidate others. Lets take high rate of kidnapping and robbery during Christmas and new year season for instance. I agree that some of these guys do this to impress the girls. However majority of them want to impressed their families, community, intimidate their mates, throw huge parties, shutdown bars for their friends, ride flashy cars and throw around cash. That will not stop even if the girl is not interested.

Also,an average Nigeria girl like osho free. Even those with a whole lot of money in the bank, chains of businesses, work in multinationals etc prefers that the one guy be the one to throw the cash around shikina. It's what the society projects. It's done basically to boost the men already over bloated ego. The woman is not supposed to be rich,so even when she is,ordinarily she should hide it. So basically that still makes that man vulnerable to crime in line with what you say even when the women are empowered.

Basically,i think the women need more than just a level playing ground not because of what the OP said but of the greater responsibility being handled by women more than men. From time immemorial generations are birthed and raised by women. Most men leave the job of raising children to women in quest for money which majority at the end of the day never makes enough till they die off. Giving women opportunities to play with special considerations for their primary role of raising the future is a way to go. For eg, For us to have healthy children WHO recommended 6months exclusive breastfeeding. However most works places esp in the private sector will only allow 1-3months for a new mother with no options of bringing your baby to work till 6 months. Some even sack you once you go on maternity leave.

Lastly, i will emphatically say that all genders commit crime and that no gender commit crime because of the other. Crime is committed mostly by choice. Motive for the crime can be anything. There are many hardworking young Nigerian men who earn their living legally and go ahead to impressed the women in their lives. The difference is choice. You don't have to be a criminal to be rich. Freewill has been given to us by God to discern good and evil. The Lord blesses the righteous and makes them prosper. SAY NO TO CRIME.
