THE MILL

*

The millstones turn lazily on their spindle,
Worked by sickly beasts of pitiful state.
Dancing round and round with little ambition,
Straining to grind my grain into powdery submission.
My mill grinds slowly, my meal shall be late,
And my cooking hearth, I'm yet to kindle.

*

The millstones' chafing sound
Mocks my near-unbearable hunger,
As around the mill I mill around
And wonder how much longer.

*

My mill grinds slowly, and my breakfast is served
When the sun strikes the top of the head,
And other folks gather for lunch.
My mill grinds slowly, and my lunch is served
When the sun's burning fierceness is dead,
And on supper, my neighbours leisurely munch.

*

My short and wobbly feet are stripped of all will,
And I come last in every race
No matter how hard I run.
Like a grandfather toiling up a hill,
I lose all steam and pace,
And cross the finish line when spectators are gone.

*

When shall I stop eating dinner at dawn?

For with a slug's lazy urgency, my mill grinds.
But I shall take comfort that it grinds

I sensed the poet in you from the set flow of your words on the sports thread. Now it's confirmed. I hope you do eat your dinner at dinner now?

Lol, thanks. Still learning tho. Didn't mean to sound poetic on the sports thread o.
As for eating dinner at dinner, I try you know. But life is a trickster. I hope u understand that the poem is a compression of my life's bitter experiences.

BTW, do u like poetry? Or write as well?

I like poetry. I see it everywhere - in the wind, sunrise, raindrops, the smile of a child, in the loveliness of a woman's form, in pain, in our struggles and deep disappointments, in music, in sounds, in colors, in you, in me. Poetry lives

Yes, there is poetry everywhere. I believe everyone is a poet, they just don't know it.

I love to have intelligent friends like you, who drink from wells of knowledge. I shall bend and drink with you, and fatten my lean hide.

Mind if I send a PM?
