Which perennial problem?
5yrs of GEJ witnessed no fuel queues despite selling fuel at ₦97

Nigerians last started experiencing fuel queues September 2015 till around March 2016 when Buhari increased pump price of fuel to ₦145 & we are still experiencing fuel queues with it.

1.There were queues during GEJ time.

2.The queues were not his fault. Subsidy regime made it impossible for fuel to be sold profitably at 97 naira. Hence the queues.

3.The queues continued until bubu increased prices.

4.We may have to increase pump prices because we still import over 60% of our fuel needs. Dangote refinery won't help much.

Because they were not enjoying the reduced and steady supply of petrol from the last administration. They wanted a change from Goodluck to badluck.

They should enjoy change. E go soon clear dem for eye.

Where are those who said once buhari is elected all the refineries would begin to function in optimal capacity and petrol importation would stop?

Not just Lagos, heard of issues in Calabar.

Sai Buhari indeed.

Useless people.

Seriously, what is your solution.

My solution is simple, we should have removed fuel subsidy long time ago, and completely deregulated the downstream sector, so that investment would have flowed in and made things better. Prices would have gone down now

Because we dont have cash to fund subsidy.

And people that believe they are mentally stable are proposing for Buharis second tenure.

So, we should take another loan just to subsidize fuel?

Oil is selling for 60 $ less than it did in 2014. We don't have the money to pay for subsidy.

When fuel price was increased from #97 to #145 price per barrel was less dan $45. Now price per barrel was $64 per barrel 2wks back and $58 as at today. So they have no reason for the increment.

We import fuel!

So we are buying at a higher price now since we import most of our finished petroleum products. Govt must subsidise more!!

It's unfortunate nobody saw this coming.

Fuel importation must stop!!!

Seun, Lalasticlala please don't move this to frontpage so that you don't cause unnecessary panic.

Well, there could be so many explanations for that.

The most likeley is as a result of recent speculations of an increase in pump price. When this happens, holders of such inventory (fuel, in this case) would stop selling now in order to sell at a higher price in the future, invariably, when such speculative price increase comes to pass. Note that these marketers purchased the fuel from the depots at the normal price. So it's not an issue of cost driving up prices. It is just to make abnormal profit, arguably driven by greed.

When this happens, it creates an artificial scarcity of petrol, thereby forcing consumers to buy more than they currently need (i.e. panic buying).

Another possible reason is shortage of supply to depots (where the marketers load) in Lagos and it's environs by the satellite depot , not ruling out the possibility of the satellite depot not being supplied from the atlas. (Basically, the flow is Atlas to Satellite depot to other various depots).

NB: The satellite depot for south west is in Sagamu, Ogun state.

A lot shaa, let me avoid too much jargon.

Does it sound pragmatic to you to sell present stock at the current price only to see that the price as increased when you go back to restock?
Who will make up for the deficit when you remember that profits of retailers are thin in the first place.

They are not a charity

Your latter suggestion is almost spot on, this is just the handiwork of the oil marketers...greed and exploitation

How do u intend to stop fuel importation when the local refineries are as good as dead and not producing up to 50% daily consumption need...I was thinking this government will tackle the refinery issue but lo we are still around the vicious circle.
I weep for this country.

I wonder what strategy Taxify and Uber intend to put in place to overcome this challenge... Please which uber app will allow me to locate petrol station selling fuel? Unless Uber plans a 4.0x price surge, my cars will be off the road until fuel is available at the filling stations.
