[BREAKING] 2017 budget: FG to release fresh N750bn for capital projects

he Federal Government on Monday said the sum of N750bn would be released this week to Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government for implementation of capital projects contained in the 2017 budget.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, gave the figure while speaking during a meeting with a delegation of investors from France.



The delegation is made up of 30 companies from France that have expressed their readiness to invest in key sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The 2017 budget, christened Budget of Recovery and Growth, was presented to the National Assembly on December 14, 2016, and passed by the lawmakers in May.

The fiscal document which was signed into law then by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on June 12, 2017 had a total expenditure of N7.44tn out of which N2.99tn was for non-debt recurrent spending, N2.36tn for capital expenditure while debt servicing was to gulp N1.66tn.

She said the government had previously released the sum of N450bn for capital projects, adding that with the additional N750bn, a total sum of N1.2tn would have been invested in infrastructure projects.

She said, “What the government is doing is to provide enabling infrastructure that would bring potential into reality.

“Last year we released N1.3tn of capital and so far this year we have released N450bn and this week we will release another N750bn and this will take the release to N1.2tn by the end of the year.”

Can you recollect when the budget was approved? The budget runs its 1 year course from the date it was approved. Criticism is good, but have all your facts.

Well, hope tbe budget will not be a failure as the previous ones.

It wasn't a failure, der was just no funds, if u can observe dat d price of crude oil has improved meaning more money to fund d budget unlike 2016 went it was all time low. Also der is improvement in tax collection and d custom boss is doing a wonderful work in duty collection.
Nigerians are impatient dey want PMB to fix our 50yrs problems under 2yrs, but i don't blame dem cos previous govts have failed us but i have strong believe in dis present govt, d govt is gradually soughting out d numerous issues pulling us down as a nation but don't expect those looters and their supporters to lay low without putting up a fight, finding all means to make dis present govt look bad.
Have u ever hear dem (opposition) praise PMB for d revolution taking place in rice production or even assisting states with huge funds to sought out d salary issues of 27 states?? No, dey are only gud @ insulting and telling lies.

Brother, 2017 budget was passed around June and will expire June 2018, it runs for 1year. It is a budget or plan dat d govt wants to execute for 1yr cycle and d gov will have to look for money to execute those plans/project.

It was a colossal failure. When you budget you make funding provisions. It's in built. If for any reason the budget under-performed. It failed. Let's call a spade a spade. If we don't stop making excuses for this government. Nigeria cannot move forward

Can you point to any budget that PDP adequately funded despite high oil price? Can you provide figure of the % of budget implementation under PDP and APC?
