ISIS got American-supplied weapons within weeks of their dispatch from factories.

1) For American weapons used by ISIS - "The number of weapons goes 'far beyond those that would have been available through battle capture alone', according to the study by arms-monitoring group Conflict Armament Research (CAR) published on Thursday."


Other weapons came from a combination of source countries in Europe and from China, Russian, etc. - "About 90 percent of weapons and ammunition used by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) originated in China, Russia, and Eastern Europe, with Russian-made weapons outnumbering those of any other country.
'These findings support widespread assumptions that the group initially captured much of its military material from Iraqi and Syrian government forces,' said the report."

2) "It added that it could not confirm whether the weapons had ended up with IS as a result of them being sold or because they had been seized.
"US weaponry has been used by IS since at least 2014 when the group swept across Iraq and seized larges swathes of territory."

4) US is number 1 in worlds weapons trade, lots of profit even with ISIS acquiring them:
"The transfer of the rockets, purchased from European countries, violated end-user agreements signed by the United States pledging not to transfer the weapons to third parties. In some cases, it took only a few weeks for the weapons to end up in the hands of Islamic State fighters after being delivered to allegedly friendly forces."
