It has been reported that the current nation wide fuel scarcity is on account of a strike called by Pengassan. Some errant staff of Neconde who are members of this union were recently sacked by this privately owned company.

Rather than seek Justice in arbitration court Pengassan has chosen to use the instrument of strike to suborn and subjugate an entire country. The amount in terms of economic losses on a daily basis can easily go into billions of naira let alone lost opportunities and people who might die in hospitals in a country run on fuel and diesel.

What Pengassan Leadership has done amounts to deliberate economic sabotage and a dangerous precedent.

The implication is that whenever an oil industry worker is sacked because his employer considers him unworthy, the nation has to suffer.

No responsible govt should allow this.

The govt should proceed to restructure the laws guiding unions and strike in this country . In the meantime DSS should proceed to arrest and charge Pengassan Leadership for grave economic crimes.

On no account should Neconde take back those workers. If they do, they are creating bigger problems for themselves and the entire oil industry.
