This is leadership course 101 on how to increase the fuel pump price or the price of any commodity in Nigeria successfully.

1. Make sure news relating to the commodity is constantly in circulation for at least two months.
Whether good or bad news, but make sure it's mostly good. Tell the nation that you have made much improvement in the oil sector and have saved much in the excess crude oil reserves of the federation.

2. Create artificial scarcity especially when you know the populace need it the most. I.e during festive seasons.
Hoard it and make sure the ones available are not enough. Let them grumble, complain and all but don't end it until they become weak and desperate to buy at any cost.

3. Ascribe the scarcity to economic sabotage and promise to deal ruthlessly with the situation. Hold talks with oil unions and promise to ensure adequate availability of petroleum products.

4. Make sure the scarcity lingers on for days and ensure that the price is increased astronomically. They will complain but because they dearly need it, they'll still buy.
E.g #400/litre as against #145/litre

5. Increase of pump price astronomically. This will get them adjusted to the new pump price.
Despel rumors of fuel pump price increase.

6. After many days/weeks of acting as though you are on top of the situation by meeting with oil unions, tell the public that due to the bad governance and corruption of the previous administration, the government has no choice than to increase the fuel pump price so as to be able to develop the oil sector, infrastructure, blah blah blah......
Say anything and when questioned accused or asked, blame the past administration or find a scape goat.

7. Announce the new pump price that should be lower than the black market price brought about by your artificial scarcity.
E.g New pump price #150/litre as against #145/litre original pump price and #400/litre black market price.

8. Flood the market with petroleum products and promise that the public will never experience fuel scarcity again because the increase will ensure good sustainable development in the oil sector and nation in general.
Make sure you blow your own trumpet and bask in the encomiums and appreciation the public give you due to the availability of petroleum products at a time when they desperately need it even though it's at a "slightly" higher price.

9. High media influencers who would continually sing your praise while ascribing all wrongs to past administrations. They must always counter any opposition on divergent opinion about your administration at all cost even if they have to verbally insult, bully or tribalize any opinion that doesn't glorify your supposed good works.

10. If there is too much public unrest about the fuel price increase, create a diversion. Find a scape goat of corruption and drag the case for weeks, or flood the media with other forms of diversion.
Make sure the media is flooded with such diversion until the public adjust and forget about the fuel price increase.

11. Repeat this process whenever you want to increase fuel pump price or any commodity.

Inorder words, as the government. To have your way, you must always create a problem and find a solution suitable to you so as to always appear to be actively working.

God Bless Nigeria!
