Regrets On The Day Of Judgement by AideeSheks(m): 10:47am On Dec 23, 2017
Life as we know it today brings with it all sorts of grief and stress and REGRET. Sometimes this grief is due to a financial worry, other times it’s relating to a health concern whilst other times, this stress and fear could be because of an enemy who is in the waiting. The stress of this Dunya comes in many different sizes, shapes and forms. However how intense this level of stress may become in the life of a person today, it doesn’t usually cause a mother to forget her child, nor does it usually cause a child to go grey, nor does it usually cause people to behave as if they were drunk. These three (3) descriptions above are the descriptions of the stress of exclusively one day alone; The Day of Judgement.

“The Day you shall see it, every nursing mother will forget her nursling, and every pregnant one will drop her load, and you shall see mankind as in a drunken state, yet they will not be drunken, but severe will be the Torment of Allah”. [Al-Hajj 22:2]

“Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children go grey-headed”. [Al-Muzammil 73:17]

One of the other names of Yawn al-Qiyamah (The Day of Judgement) is Yawm al-Hashr (The Day of Regret). The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) has in fact informed us of several matters that will bring regret on the Day of Judgement and we shall discuss six (6) of them in this write-up, In shaa Allaah.

1.) NOT GIVING SURATUL BAQARAH ITS DUE ATTENTION:
This most likely sounds surprising to most people. When the rewards are distributed on the Day of Judgement to the people of the Qur’an and specifically, the people of Suratul Baqarah, those who had ignored this surah will be taken by regret.
Abu Umamah reported: The Messenger of Allaah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Recite Surat al-Baqarah as there is blessing in it, there is sorrow in leaving it, and the sorcerers cannot confront it”. Sahih Muslim 804.

2.) ANY GATHERING WHERE THE NAME OF ALLAH IS NOT MENTIONED:
Imam Abu Dawud reported in an authentic hadith in his Sunan on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “No people who leave a gathering without having mentioned Allah in it, but they leave it like leaving a dead donkey, and it will cause deep grief to them”.

3.) THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO ASPIRED FOR POSITIONS OF AUTHORITY:
Abu Hurayrah narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said, “You will be keen to attain authority and it will be a source of regret on the Day of Resurrection. So what an excellent wet-nurse it is and what an evil weaner”. Sahih Al-Bukharee 262
The last sentence in this hadith compares those who crave for positions of authority with the breastfeeding child who is always receiving nutrition readily available from his mother. But there has to come a day when that child must be weaned and the milk has to come to a stop. So those who aspired for positions of status and authority without deserving them will realise on the Day of Judgement that their wealth and prestige will be of no help to them.

4.) A PERSON WHO PUTS FORWARD ACTS OF WORSHIP BUT THEY CONTAIN WITHIN THEM HIDDEN ELEMENTS OF SHOWING OFF:
A person who has dedicated years upon years of what he calls worship and Qur’an, Salah, Fasting, Dhikr, Da’awah etc. and they see these good deeds in the forms of mountains on the day of Judgement and to his horror, they begin to crumble before his very eyes.
Ibn Maajah (4245) narrated from Thawbaan that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I certainly know people of my ummah who will come on the Day of Judgement with good deeds like the mountains of Tihaamah, but Allaah will make them like scattered dust”. Thawbaan said: “O Messenger of Allaah, describe them to us and tells us more, so that we will not become of them unknowingly. He said: “They are your brothers and from your race, worhsipping at night as you do, but they will be people who when they are alone, transgress the sacred limits of Allaah”.

5.) WHEN ONE FINDS HIMSELF FORCED ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT TO HAND OVER GOOD DEEDS TO SOMEBODY ELSE OR WHEN FORCED TO CARRY THE SINS OF SOMEBODY ELSE:
This can occur as a result of oppressing or wronging another person.
“Whoever has wronged his brother with regard to his honour or something, let him ask for forgiveness before the time when there will be neither dinar or dirham, and if he has any good deeds it will be taken from him in proportion to the wrong he did, and if he does not have any good deeds (hasanaat), some of the other person’s evil deeds (sayi’aat) will be taken and given to him to bear”. (Reported by al-Bukharee, 2296).

6.) ANY MUSLIM INDIVIDUAL WHO FALLS SHORT WITH REGARDS TO THE TIME HE SPENDS IN LIFE WITHOUT STRIVING TO BUILD FOR HIS HEREAFTER:
This point is as self-explanatory enough and simply, the greatest regret there could ever be is the regret of missing the prize of Jannah. These people will break down in regret on that day saying:
“Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (future) life!” (Al-Fajr 89:24})

In conclusion, every individual who turns a blind eye and pretends that the day of regret is not coming is going to be in an excruciating state of major regret on that day.
Brothers and sisters, these are six (6) of the many matters that will bring regret on the day of judgement. The preparation starts from today and we need to set goals for tackling every one of these six matters.
“And warn them of the Day of regret, as the command is decreed, and they are in a state of heedlessness, and they do not believe”. (Maryam 19:39).
