RENO Omokri, an ex-presidential aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, has revealed why the Federal government is delaying in hiking of fuel price.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo had stated two years ago that the best thing that could happen to the nation was the bold step taken by the President Muhammadu Buhari to remove subsidy from the product.

He was later quoted to have said that the NNPC and not the Federal Government pays for the fuel subsidy that has emerged with the N171 landing cost as against the official retail price of N145.

The NNPC is a subsidiary under the federal government and the President is the incumbent minister of petroleum.

Omokri said the only reason the government is delaying is because of the shame that will accompany the pronouncement that it has been paying for the same fuel subsidy it criticised under his former boss, Goodluck Jonathan.

He reacted through his Twitter handle @renoomokri.

“The Buhari administration is going to increase fuel price sooner than later. Mark my words. The only reason for the delay is that they are ashamed to tell Nigerians that they have been paying the same subsidy they claimed was a scam under Jonathan but can no longer afford to pay.”

... you do not have to believe Reno, a little research into history will tell you the type of deceptive & negatively cunning administration we presently have...

http://opera.pulse.ng/news/local/ibe-kachikwu-minister-denies-plans-to-increase-fuel-price-to-n97-id4476000.html

less than 3 months later...

http://punchng.com/fg-increases-fuel-pump-price/

same administration that denied paying subsidy in the past

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/05/fg-subsidises-petrol/

mind you, when crude oil was about $60+ p/b in Dec 2014 GEJ reduced fuel price & APC (then in the opposition) said the margin of reduction was too small & designed to deceive Nigerians...

in May 2016 when APC, now in power increased fuel to $145, crude oil was sold at $47+ p/b...

https://www.indexmundi.com/commodities/?commodity=crude-oil-brent&months=60

of course their was the variable of the dollar, but the reduction in crude oil should have balanced it out...

so who is the liar now? the present administration has a solid history of lies...

It will be increased immediately after the elections. They'll continue to pay the subsidy until then and then, boom!

for real the presidency is in a tight corner on this issue. its a sign God is angry with this government and ready to expose them. osinbanjo is now speaking from both side of his mouth.

2012 Oil Was $111.67, Fuel Price With Subsidy N65 & Without Subsidy N141

When Jonathan attempted to remove subsidy there was a nationwide protest from north and West.

and at the time price of petrol increased from 65 naira ($0.40; £0.26) per litre to at least 141 naira in filling stations, and a barrel of crude was $111.67.

Now a barrel of crude is $69 with subsidy at N145 and we are told without subsidy it might get to N200.

the question now is what if the oil price get to $111? Nigerians will buy fuel at N1000?

the Buhati government failed in all ramification. people like oshiomohle with big mouth and ugly face. we are not seeing them to condemn this government. including fashola who claimed that fuel price should come down when oil price falls.

dollars exchange shouldn't be excuse as the oil is going up, that means the dollars earnings should increase as well, and which should strengthened the naira against dollar.

in my book. i'm of the opinion that even if oil get back to $112, dollar will not get to N180 again under this buhari. since the increase of oil price the exchange rate is still stagnant.

Will the shame allow them?
They had already denied bearing the cost of the subsidy by claiming it is paid by NNPC.
But is the NNPC not a revenue generating agency of the FG?
Won't the subsidy being taken out before remittance reduce what the FG receives from NNPC at the end of the day?
Why the deception? angry

They better keep paying and keep the price or even take it lower.
After all subsidy is a scam. grin

IT IS AN UNAVOIDABLE SITUATION, FUEL PRICE WILL BE INCREASED AS LONG AS WE CONTINUE TO IMPORT REFINED PRODUCTS.
INCREASE IN CRUDE OIL PRICE MEANS, INCREASE IN PRICE OF REFINED PRODUCTS ( AND THUS SUBSIDY) , SINCE WE DONT HAVE ANY LOCAL REFINERY CAPACITY, WE WILL NEED TO BITE THE BULLET.
ANY ATTEMPT BY GOVERMENT TO CUSHION THIS EFFECT AND TO MINTAIN FUEL PRICE AT N145 PER LITRE WE HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON OUR EXTERNAL RESERVE AND ABILITY TO FUND OUR BUDEGT - RECALL FUEL SUBSIDY CONSTITUTED ABOUT +20% OF PRE 2015 NATIONAL BUDGET?
THE QUESTION NIGERIANS SHOULD ASK IS HOW WAS THE LAST REGIME (GEJ) ABLE TO MAINTAIN A LOWER PUMP PRICE OF N87.50/LITRE IN THE MIDST OF HIGHER CRUDE OIL PRICE (+$60/BBL) PRE MAY 2015? THE EXTERNAL DEMAND / SUPPLY DYNAMICS OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS HAS REMAINED UNCHANGED, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE HIGHER EXCHANGE RATES?

They should better Consult GEJ... on how he was able to not just manage but also reduce the price of fuel at a time crudeoil was $100/barrel..

Where are all the oil was sold at $100/barrel chanters?
