The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and their candidate in the Anambra Central Senatorial District rerun election conducted on Saturday, Chief Victor Umeh has been declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Anambra Central Senatorial District rerun election was conducted in seven local government areas of the state. The election however witnessed low turn out of voters and many of the electoral officers deployed for the exercise were seen sitting idle.

The voter apathy was said to be as a result of the court cases which lingered till a day before the stated date and many thought that the election may never hold eventually.

About fourteen political parties participated in the rerun and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP did not take part in the exercise owing to disqualification by the pronouncement of the court.

Chief Victor Umeh of the ruling party in Anambra State, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was declared the winner by the Returning Officer, Prof. Charles Esemone, having garnered a total of 64,879 votes.

Prof. Charles Esemone, a Deputy Vice Chancellor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, who announced the final result said, “Chief Sir Victor Umeh, having polled the highest number of votes and satisfying the law, is hereby returned elected.”
