Top 5 Nigerian Artists Who Lost The Spark Before They Even Started by Nobody: 4:42pm On Feb 13, 2018
Over the years the Nigerian music industry have grown to be a very lucrative niche to carve out a full time career.
The industry have grown so big it now boast of millionaires and even billionaires from different parts of the country. Upcoming artist who work hard and seal a record deal with Top musical labels in the industry gets the opportunity to enjoy
a luxurious life like their international counterparts in places like Europe and America.
Some of this upcoming artist gets sign and deliver for their label, Some take it a step further by creating their own label at the end of their contract, While some on the other hand gets signed and loose the spark before they even release their 2nd single.
In this post, we’ll list out the Top 10 Nigerian artists who lost the spark before they even became relevant.

NOTE: Starting from the ones who had slight success.

5. May-D

After being recommended to the Square brothers by one UK based rapper named Alaye, Singer May-D found himself among the A-list acts back then in the Nigerian music industry… May-D’s hunt for fame and success didn’t start as early as u might be thinking… During his younger days, May-D was more of a dancer to a musician…. He even had accommodation problems before the Square brothers (P-square) took him in…. After spending about 4 years with the Square brother’s, they eventually discovered his talent as they were impressed by his vocals and freestyles in the studio.
There was no better way for square brothers to introduce him to the music audience than featuring him in a monster hit track ‘Chop My Money’ that has the square brothers ( P-Square) and Akon in it.
This new found talent by the square brothers didn’t stay up to one year with them before seeking for freedom…. After much buzz and negative headlines in the media, The Square brothers decided to cut themselves off their new talent by letting him have his freedom with perhaps a settlement.
May-D after going solo made some cools hits ‘ille’Ijo’, ‘Cool Temper’, ‘Sound Track’ and ‘Gat Me High’ before hitting the bricks.
May-D’s musical spark as of now can be 100% questioned as he is nowhere to be found.
Many people believe his current bad luck and decline in progress is as a result of Mother Karma!! The Nigerian music fans feels he isn’t appreciative and as such no longer see him as a musical entity… His spark went dead before he could even make and album… This days less relevant wannabe artist like Vic O even make more deadlines than him.
We really feel for him but however, we think he can get back his former sport if he learns how to be more humble and appreciative and most importantly work on his Indian Hemp Addiction.

4. Oritse Femi
Oritse Femi had a seemingly smooth career as at 2013 in his own music label MSN Gang following his release of the very popular single “Double Wahala” which was the remake of Fela’s song also titled ‘Double Wahala’.
The song became even more popular after he featured D-banj, an iconic Nigerian musician and former member Of Don Jazzy’s Mavin’s record label…. The success ‘Double Wahala’ increased the fan base of Femi above the roofs…. However, we’ve noticed his career seems to be in an automatic pause mood as of the moment because he’s currently nowhere to be found.
His new songs doesn’t get much buzz… He’s slowly slowly going down the drain… That spark we saw in him have suddenly left him.
Although he made this list, we’re still skeptical on concluding whether he has totally lost his musical spark or whether he’s still having difficulties deciding if he’ll marry his current fiancé or make her his third baby mama.

3. Skibii.
Speaking of upcoming acts who’d do anything to get relevance at the inception of their career, Skibii comes to mind. This dude knew perfectly well he wouldn’t be able to stand the hit in the very competitive Nigerian music industry to the point of being loved by all and being classified as an A-list act…. He decided to take the easy rout of boosting his relevance and fan base by faking his own death which didn’t quite turn out well… Smart Nigerians figured out immediately the loopholes in his planned death when he immediately announced his singles as the news became more apex and when he mysteriously resurrected from his death… As faith might have it, the plan didn’t bring him any nearer to the limelight, instead his career went far far down the pit of irrelevance… The singles he tried to boost didn’t make it pass the corridors of 5 star music studio… His career was totally destroyed before it even began. The sarcastic swipe he received from Falz sent him down the pit of irrelevance even further… We feel for him.

2. Tonto Dike.
The actress turn house wife, turn divorcee, turn inspirational speaker once tried her luck in music.
The result of this experiment was very fatal as the backlash she received from the very humorous Nigerian music lovers on social media made her throw the mic even before attending her first paid show.
Listening to her song, you’d know she already lost her spark even before the first verse will finish… In short her song was more like a back-up sound… The yelling was extremely too much…. Her vocals reeks of annoying melodies that can injure the ear or cause deafness if caution isn’t taken… We believe her mangers or sponsors got really really disappointed in the experiment and regret bitterly in spending their money on what they thought would have come out successful.

1.EFE.
Efe managed to pull a considerable amount of supporters with his unique Flow in the Warri version of pidgin English in the just concluded BBN show which was hosted in South Africa. He boosted his supporters/fans even more by eventually winning the show and bagging the mouthwatering goodies attached to it.
One would think Efe will immediately delve into business with his new found fortune of N25m not knowing he had a bigger experiment in mind which was bound to fail…. After winning the BBnaija award, Efe immediately delve into music which seems to have imprisoned him in the room of irrelevance… His first singles was repulsive to the ears… Majority of his core fans found his voice very annoying… Everything was local… You’d prefer that annoying early morning melody coming from birds on trees to the voice of this guy.
His lyrical game was Zero% he couldn’t even blend his Warri flows in his lyrics without being annoying… People began to wonder if he was forced to sing with faulty equipment… His musical career didn’t even last for 2 months…. His first singles murdered everything. He’s now lost and perhaps irrelevant in the Nigerian music industry… We advice he makes good use of his BBN fortune as it is very clear music isn’t his calling.
