The Yobe state government, on Wednesday, claimed that the missing 94 girls from the Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School in Dapchi, have been rescued by gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Army.

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents had, on Monday evening, stormed the GGSTC Dapchi and reportedly carted away foodstuff and other valuables before kidnapping some of the girls at the school, according to witnesses.

many errors of a lawmaker
The time has now come for the concerned residents of Surulere to take a bold step and take a stand on the issue of the purported 5th term project of our dear Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila who has in the course of 15 solid years decided to turn the entire Surulere constituency 1 to his play toy. In as much as the Nigerian constitution deosnt limit the tenure of legislative representatives to a definite term, this does not call for the perpetuation of a single man in the office to the detriment of the entire constituency at large.
Charity, they say begins at home and a party formed against the backdrop of the change mantra should know better than allowing one man to perpetually decide the political fate of a whole set of progressives in a constituency. Preaching change remains sancrosanct when it becomes a herculean task to practice what we preach by continually imposing an individual in an elected office for a period so long that we begin to look at ourselves as if no other person is capable to effectively represent us, save for the same man who has been there from time immemorial.
The fact that the faithful party followers and the electorates at large continually elect Hon Gbajabiamila to represent us at the Federal House of Representatives for the past 15 years doesn’t mean we don’t have other capable or better hands that will equal or dwarf the performances of Hon Gbajabiamila. Rather, we chose to hold on to the belief that there is an allotted time for every event under the sun. at this point in time, we the progressives of our great constituency have deemed it fit to follow the path of change by choosing to replace Hon. Gbajabiamila, a man who has continually shown that the interests of his loyalists are far more paramount than that of the constituency.
Hon. Gbajabiamila has embarked on a series of schemes within the constituency which has been observed as tending towards some form of self-gratification. Or, how else are we to classify the various inscriptions “facilitated by” on amenities that we know are funded with taxpayers’ money. From street lights to ambulances, Hon. Gbajabiamila’s name have become quite ubiquitous. Investigations show that the self-gratification tendencies of Hon. Gbajabiamila has been confirmed via the lawmaker wanting to take glorification for the donations of such amenities when in actual fact these schemes were never funded by him to start with. To further fuel his crafty nature, whenever he is called out to ascertain his level of involvement in such projects, these amenities which were hitherto inscribed with ‘Donated by’ would suddenly change to ‘facilitated by’ overnight.
Another fact that has not gone unnoticed is the predisposition of our dear Hon. Gbajabiamila to display tyrannical tendencies. In the times past, several party leaders across the various wards within the constituency have always been called upon for their respective inputs on matters of the party when such need arises. Hon. Gbajabiamila has systematically continued to undermine the eminence of these party leaders so much that only the ones that are ever ready to dance to his tunes are the ones he identifies and consult with on matters that should ordinarily involve all notable party leaders. He has become so entrenched in despotic displays so much that his default mode has been to nullify any progressive input whatsoever from any leader who doesn’t dance to his music. This, as it has been observed, has pitted our dear party leaders against themselves, with Hon. Gbajabiamila being the sole beneficiary of the resulting conflicts. Do we need to remind the party hierarchy of Hon. Gbajabiamila’s unwavering support for the failed move to impeach the executive chairman, Hon, Ajide during the latter’s first tenure in office? How else can we describe the despot’s imposition of his preferred candidates as councilors in all the nine wards that make up Surulere Local Government?
It should be noted that while the stakeholders are not ignorant of choice moves to make regarding all these anomalies, we prefer to remain obedient to the party aparatchiks. But it should be known at this juncture that our resolve has been completely expended and we have decided to make our stands known to the party hierarchy: NO TO 5TH TERM FOR HON. FEMI GBAJABIAMILA! We cannot continue to have just one man decide the structure and process for us anymore, as it demeans our collective intelligence. If Hon. Gbajbiamila wants to continue to operate in the capacity of a kingmaker, he should honourably relinquish his elected political post and focus more on his new found hobby. We, as progressives have grown disoriented with his numerous gimmicks and as such will never compromise the stand we have come to take.
This should not be seen as a matter of betrayal nor anti-party movement. Rather, we want the party hierarchy to view our agitation as that of progressive like minds who have the interest of the party at heart. We remain committed to working tirelessly to taking our beloved party to newer heights and this can only be achieved by voicing our displeasure at any political leader who holds the opinion that without him the party can never move forward.
