Billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates has urged the Nigerian government to invest more the health and education sectors, Punch reports.

Bill Gates visited Nigeria on Wednesday, and paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari and the heads of the National Assembly.

He sat with the National Economic Council along with billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to birth a child, Gates said, as it has the 4th worst maternal mortality rate in the world.

In upper middle-income countries, the average life expectancy is 75 years. In lower middle-income countries, it’s 68, and in low-income countries, it’s 62. In Nigeria, it is lower still, just 53 years.

Gates urged the government to invest more in both the health and education sectors. The country would do better, he said, with strong investments in this sectors, than on concentrating on physical infrastructure.
