FG Back-pedals, To Adopt Ranching To End Herders, Farmers Clashes by Blue3k2: 1:54am On Apr 19, 2018
By Chris Ochayi

ABUJA – The Federal Government, said, Wednesday that it is focusing on establishment of cattle ranching as solution to the protracted clashes between the herdsmen and farmers, which resulted in killings of several people and wanton destruction of properties by suspected herders across the country, especially, Benue, Plateau, Taraba and Adamawa States.

Minister of Interior, LT. Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazau, Retd, who made this known in Abuja, at the stakeholders’ dialogue on the eradication of herders-farmers conflict in Nigeria, said another measure put in place by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Interior is the establishment of Agro Rangers.

Danbazau, while speaking further at the dialogue organised by the Alumni Association of the National Institute, ANNI in collaboration with Presidential Committee on Small and light weapons, PRESCOM, regretted the incessant loss of lives, properties and environmental degradation occasioned the conflict.

Represented by the Deputy Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Mohammed Jega, the minister said, “In order to address the menace, the Federal Government has not relented its efforts in overcoming the insecurity challenges by proposing to establish cattle ranches “

According to the minister, “It has further been established that climate change, scarce resources, trans-boarder migration cause pastoralists mainly from other African countries to move through the North to other parts of Nigeria in search of grazing land for their livestock and this constitute the security challenge wa are facing today.

“Their movement has brought about clashes which is invariably affecting the level of food shortage thereby causing food insecirty and this further threatens the stability of our nation. Security is an integral part of livelihood and well being of he citizenry and we must ensure that these challenges are surmountable.

“The competition for scarce resources has often resulted into a more frequent and destructive conflict than ever. The decade of the 1990s has witnessed the highest number of armed conflicts most of which are consequences os struggle for natural resources.

“Herdsmen by nature are nomads who move from one place to another to rear their animals for economic and social survival particularly seeking a place to cater for his animals. Similarly, the social standing of an herdsman depends on the number of cattle poosessed, just the status of a man in the society rests on the number of properties on which his social class can be adjudged.

“Thus, the herdsman guards his cattle jealously. The incessant resource conflicts witnessed in that nation have resulted in loss of lives, properties and environmental degradation on the strength of this, communal conflicts over land resources are usually fierce with massive destruction of lives and properties as witnessed in states like Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Zamfara, Adamawa and Plateau, etc.”

Danbazau noted that, “In order to address the menace, the Federal Government has not relented its efforts in overcoming the insecurity challenges by proposing to establish cattle ranches. In 1966, the northern regional government of Nigeria initiated one of the first measures to respond to the crisis of herders/farmers by establishing cattle ranches but was abandoned by the previous governments.

“Another measure put in place by the Federal Goverrnment through the Ministry of Interior is the establishment of Agro Rangers. This responsibility is placed on the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, who are to secure and provide physical security in all the proposd cattle ranches centres nationwide.

“Also, the establishment of joint operation of the military, police and NSCDC is to put an end to the menace and protect Agro-Allied investment by both local and foreign investors.”

In his remarks, the Chairman of Presidential Committee on Small and light weapons, PRESCOM, Ambassador Emmanuel Imohe said, in view of what is happening today, Nigerians must sit together and talk to themselves with open minds in order to address the insecurity threats confronting the nation.

According to him, “It is as a result of the foregoing as well the further impact or threat of same that we, as Nigerians must sit together and talk to ourselves with open minds with a view to critically and constructively diagnosing this raging security threat in order to proffer enduring solution for the consideration of our government.”

Imohe also blamed the porous nature of Nigerian boarder with other west African countries for influx of illegal alliance and smuggling of deadly weapons into the country.

As Large As Govt Made Us To Understand The Sambisa Forest Is, It Will Contain The Whole Cows In The Country. Moreso It Is A Forest Not Desert, Which Means It Will Be Best Place Grow The Imported Grass For The Cows. Ministry Of Agriculture In Collaboration With The Millitary And The Propose Forest Rangers Should Work Out The Strategy For Management And Security Of The Cows. Govt Knows What To Do But Shy Away From Doing It For Reason Best Known To Them.

It could be a 2019 stunt meant to pacify docile Buhari voters who may think they are about to get justice.
It could be squashed at the senate eventually through politicking. If the herdsmen could manhandle police and not get heat then this is possible.

Buhari has shown clearly that his heart is with his Fulani brethren and any rumour of a change of heart is likely to be received with skepticism. The herdsmen can even kill policemen but shite members cant block COAS.

Were they killing policemen and threatening through MACBAN also? Was there any anti- grazing bill in any state then. So the history of killing is enough reason for Buhari to fold his arms and give dummy orders to service heads?

What has become of the restructuring proposals now? Sane Nigerians see a pattern so they have now resolved to preempt and reject any of such moves. Until it actually happens it's a mere political gimmick and no normal person will be deceived again.

Be honest! Has it ever been sustained with this level of impudence? Have security agents such as the Army and Police been so compromised and murdered like now? Yes, the herdsmen problem has been there. However, he is expected to improve the situation not sit on his ignorant, skinny arse and ask victims to learn to accept and accommodate their enemy neighbours.

He cannot account for the movement of the IG whom he sent on an assignment and u actually think he's on top of the situation?

It is not the role of the FG to acquire land for herdsmen under any guise(except the conversion of sambisa forest to a super 'ranch'). Herding is private business which must be regulated by whichever state they choose to operate in. The FG should intervene through enabling policies and access to credit to encourage agriculture. However, this spoonfeeding habit or idea of the FG as lord n master must stop. There he is accusing youths of wanting government to provide them with basics for free and now same govt wants to go over n above its mandate, take from others and give to one tribe at the expense of all others...for what?!

A ranch can always be converted to a colony ...I call on Nigerians to resist the attempt by Buhari to grab land for his Fulani herders either in the Name of ranch or colony because it's all the same thing and same end game

Buhari needs to get out of people's lives and stop trying to steal land for fulani in the south. Let states and individuals handle their private business. No amount of killing will make Nigerians give up their land.

herdsmen are business men and should be able to use their profits to do what is right.

Govt has no business in acquiring lands for herdsmen.

No states in the South should allow Fulani Herdsmen in the guise of Federal Government via buhari and cohorts build ranches in their states..

Knowing these marauders, they will claim the ranches as colonies pretty soon...Better South and middle-belt should shine their eyes.

*ALL IS VANITY AND NEVER ATTEMPT TO HAVE IT ALL

As soon as a plane lands at the airport, there is another plane taking off from that airport, and others lined up to take off too. They all leave to different destinations and even back to the airport you departed.

This is the way life is; When you think you have "arrived" you find others are taking off.... Some to where you are coming from and others to other activities.

You may have been a house wife for lack of a job, as soon as you land your dream job, you find someone resigning to become a house wife or for greener pastures......You may be basking in all the wealth but have serious deficiencies in health....

There are people crying day and night for lack of children and yet others are crying day and night BECAUSE of their children. I have met people depressed for not being married and have met others depressed for being married . There are people who are sick and tired for lack of a job while others are sick and tired OF their jobs...

I have seen parents very worried on how their kids will perform in exams while others are worried on how to take those who have performed well to good schools.

This is life...we will never have it all and its like chasing the wind ...Instead of always being in a marathon trying to get it all, its important to take frequent pauses and reflect. *Learn to be content in every situation. Enjoy what you have and where you are. Generate a thanksgiving heart and trust God to move you from one level to another.*

Copied.

*Be grateful for whom you are!*

Child from family A quarrels with child from family B and the mediators decide to erect a mansion for child B to settle the altercations and leaves child A to fend for himself.

Now Child B is not even from Nigeria as claimed by the mediators. He is from the neighbouring countries who fight with AK47 rifles. The normal Child B we used to know carry only sticks but because child B has got himself impersonators, he is going to be rewarded with ranches and colonies.

Are you confused? So am I. I've been trying to solve this riddle
