Nothing sir
Nigeria my Nigeria
I saw someone who said it takes two to tangle as regards hostile environment for survival; in Geography we have man- environment relationship (s) which are - determinism, possibilism and probabilism. Determinism which is the most commonly practiced simply means the environment determines what output man can make of it! You can't be hardworking in a system where nothing works! 80% of jobs are back channeled to the upper class, the remain 20% for qualified 100million youth to fight for, harsh economy to even start up and maintain a fish farm. If we see a better environment , we will all ball! Let government play their part and we will our part! I sell handmade shoes for both sex and I am surviving, not at my desired rate but soon enough.

Did he say ALL youth of Nigeria are lazy?

Besides semantics, I put it to you, the Nigerian youth do not display enough creativity.

How much research, patents, world class artistic work would you find in our institutions?
Let me guess..that's government's fault
.

Ok let's go to the number of our young people who have access to the internet. How many are involved in programming, animation, international research syndicates?

Let me guess...that's the government's fault.

Here on Nairaland, start a topic with a misleading headline and wait to find how many would spot the disconnect between the headline and the body of the message.

Let me guess... it's the government's fault.

The youth of Nigeria are lacking in creativity and please don't give me Nollywood and Afro music. It can take only a few entrants.

We need people who want to create and constantly think of solutions.

We need people who channel their energy positively and not in cult activities, Yahoo or drug use.

Talking about drugs, this poor nation is experiencing a new wave of drug abuse...tramadol, codeine, skunk etc.
That's what the nation is about.

Many Nigerians are of the misconception that the country is rich but the reality is that we aren't.

Yes we have the potential to be wealthy, but we are a poor nation in every way, shape or form.

Our President, Muhammed Buhari told people at Commonwealth summit that Nigeria youths are lazy, not doing anything; but waiting for free Oil money.
“More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education for free.”

Is this true of Nigeria youth trying to make ends meet; doing all kinds of odd jobs including yahoo, baba Ijebu, prostitution and so on?
Well, I didn't watch the video, but if it is true that the president said Nigerian youths are lazy, then it really is a baseless statement.
Firstly, all Nigerian youths ain't lazy.
Secondly, majority of Nigerian youths ain't lazy.
So the statement is without fact. If he had said, some Nigerian youths are lazy, well I would not have argued. Cos, Anywhere in the world you will meet a lot of lazy people.
And please what is his definition of lazy? Someone without a job, someone without a good paying job, someone that isn't creative or someone that is into crime? I would like to be enlightened on this before i put more argument forward.

Nigerian youths are very hardworking and that’s why we always make it abroad. We succeed even thou some have visa restrictions, Europeans cant survive this.

@rusher14, you are not really as grounded as you claimed, perhaps due to ill education system in Nigeria. Not everyone will do research, develop apps or ground breaking innovation in Nigeria or any where in the world. The few drives the majority.

I have never seen PhD adverts in Nigeria that will pay monthly salary, have you ? How can brilliant people do research then ? They need the money or do you also say they should not succeed in life and have family because they are not hard working?

Guy, You lack basic understanding of how a country should run. Buhari committed a huge blunder. If you are a slave, I am not and the youths demand an apology from him.

President Buhari is right, he said many Nigeria Youths. The only thing there is that he used what happens in the Northern Nigeria to generalise. Truly speaking most Northern youth what everything done for them free of charge. Ofcourse so many things are provided for them for free e.g electricity, they don't pay tax, etc.

How dare you call Nigerian youths lazy? What is wrong with you guys, how can a grown up man like yourself in his right senses take sides with a President who deems it fit to give $1bn to a terrorist group meanwhile lecturers in federal universities are being owed.

Have you ever been to Aba, Onitsha? No? Perhaps you must've been to Lagos. Don't you see how most youths are quitting the rush for white collar jobs and instead they're setting up shops, businesses, smes, et al. Do you know how difficult and challenging it is to do business in Nigeria? Even multinationals with big monies are packing up. Yet the youths with nowhere else to turn to sweat it out and most times succeed.

Its sad when an old man who don't have his Waec certificates calls his younger citizens illiterate and lazy. But its scarier when young people like you talk the way you did above- you give credence to the blabbing foolery of a frail-sick-old man.

YES. Nigerian youths are lazy.
They are also used to being told they are lazy which is a surprise that Buhari's words said in a certain context is generating furore. Every student in school, young worker in the office and apprenticeship intern is being told this same thing everyday.

In northern Nigeria, there is 60% unemployment and a growing drug epidemic. Maybe some people like politicians who tell lies but if you want a President who lies maybe they should vote for Atiku.
oga, something is wrong with ur head. U are saying nigeria youths are lazy bah? Maybe ur brothers n sisters are the ones lazy. Is not surprising that bihari could say such about the Nigerian youths, since he once said such about his wife in similar abroad meetings. Truth is there's atom of truth in his speak but that's equally not the best way to present your country to the international community. Is not completely cool, but we must really stand to our feet as youth to prove him wrong, am sure he wasn't trying to insult anyone. Is just his own wrong way of saying some kind of truth. He is old and had helped himself during his youthful age, as it was in their time when youths were the leaders of almost every decision making body, we as youth must stand up and stop assuming this guys hates us, they really don't, they just love power a little more, greed is almost natural it takes been disciplined and principled to stay true to the right values.

Most nigerian youths have criminal intents and since our so called leaders are also criminals, its no wonder that they understand themselves. That is why the granting of amnesty and political thuggery jobs have become very common.

For every youth who desires to make a difference, there are hundreds of criminal youths that will be willing to frustrate his plans and even spill blood if paid to do so.

How can you allow yourself to live and be used like a dog to some set of old, wicked fools and think you can be given a chance to have a say or become future leaders? How?

Even pmb knows how spineless Nigerian youths have become and that why he made that statement.

Don't justify Buhari's error statement. He disgraced Nigerians with his statement. A father expecting suitors for her daughters doesn't call her a prostitute. In his foo lishness, he was canvassing for foreign investors after calling the youths of his nation lazy. If you are Jeff Bozz, Zuckerberg or Gates, will you come to Nigeria after hearing what Buhari said. For you to defend Buhari shows that you personally is a the lazy one. Just like the president.
