A bill with the aim of simplifying the procedure for impeaching the country’s President and Vice-president passed second reading at the House of Representatives on Tuesday 4th June 2013.

The bill seeks to amend Section 143 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) “to remove the ambiguities in the process of removal of the President and the Vice-President from office on allegations of gross misconduct and to provide for a more transparent and democratic procedure for impeachment…”

For real.there some bills I won't support.this is just mediocres expressing their hypocrisies again.at times it appears the National assembly seems to make itself more powerful than the executive.I know checks and belances must be in place but not at the disposal of ill-conceived motives.even the presidents veto can be overruled by 2/3 majority.Nigeria has too much of dirty politics.with this oppositions can use the backing of the law to justify their campaign against the ruling administration.

If you read through the processes before a president can be impeached, you will understand what the reps are trying to do. The process of impeaching the president is tedious, making it almost impossible. Unlike the governor, where two-third of the state house of assembly can boot him out, the president's case requires same percentage from both the upper and lower houses. After this, the individual house of assembly of each state will still vote on his impeachment. Then if a certain percentage from each state assembly votes for him to be impeach, then shall he only be impeached.

The process is too rigorous and was designed to be impossible. Let them review it. At least, let the upper and lower houses only have a say.

Anyone who works or close to the National assembly, particularly the House, will tell you that MONEY IS SCARCE...very scarce now. Jonathan tightened all channels of funds to them. Most of them bemoan this government as being too tightfisted. Obasanjo was far better as third term money circulated heavily. So this is to get Jonathan to shake is body and drop some change down....

Please sir, did you actually took time out to read, digest and comprehend the post because I don't see why the president should be worried over a MOVE FOR CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT other than a MOVE FOR IMPEACHMENT if he (GEJ) is following DUE PROCESS.

the problem is that GEJ is too straight and clean for them so they re really seriously searching for loopholes to squeeze money out. The lawmakers don't like this.
