Lagos Danfo Buses Now Use Gas Instead Of Petrol - Photos by AutoReportNG: 6:02pm On Apr 30, 2018 |
Nigerians are innovative, smart and hardworking set of people. AutoReportNG was in Mowe-Ibafo a city in Ogun state and we decided to board a bus at Ketu, before boarding the bus we noticed some strange object like a gas tank under the seat but just as Lagos drivers can do anything to their vehicles, we overlook it as part of those things. The commercial bus decided to stop at a "Filling Station" to top up his tank, but this one seems to be irregular as the nozzle and the way it was sold was quite different from the regular petrol station. That was when the curiosity in us began to manifest, we asked the driver what's going on why is he buying gas instead of buying petrol, the driver just smiled. We were able to engage the driver as we journey along the trip and the driver was kind enough to explain the modalities, according to him, when the problem of fuel and scarcity is about making them go out of business, they think of a smart way to operate and also think of spending less. According to our findings, the vehicle uses an injector engine and with a gas of 900 naira, the driver said he can go from Lagos to Mowe (through and fro) 3 times even when there is traffic. That is very very cheap and cost effective! Imagine how much he will be making in a day just using gas only. Let's do the maths a bit, a full bus take 15 passengers and they charged 200 per passenger ((200 * 15) * 2) that is in a trip (through and fro), he will make 6000 naira, imagine going 3 times, that is 18000 using 900 naira gas. Imagine if he goes 10 times in a day, you can imagine. Wisdom is profitable to direct! These are some of the pictures we were able to gather... AutoReportNG: How can it be a coolant and yet drive an engine? The vehicle has a combustion chamber with spark plugs. It originally used fuel or diesel which produces fire or spark that causes locomotion. Even ancient trains that used water had to heat it to boiling temperature. If such "coolant gas" existes its technology can not be in a rickety molue. What is there is the normal cooking gas (which is cool at room temperature) but very volatile and combustible. 98 Likes 1 Share |

It is a good innovation that needs an adjustment. Don't put gas cylinders underneath the seats of passengers. Find another place to put it outside the reach of passengers because of explosion due to leakage & phone calls.. Good Innovation but pls reposition the gas tanks outside the reach of passengers and exhaust pipe. Place the gas tank underneath the bus and reinforce the protective barrier from leakage. In order words, put the gas tank in another non rustable steel material in order to reinforce the protective barrier and prevent gas leakage. Thanks 28 Likes 2 Shares |

AutoReportNG: @ Bolded. It doesn't make sense if it's a coolant. A coolant or anti-freeze is a liquefied chemical (bluish or greenish in color) that's usually put into the radiator of a car in the cool/cold regions. It regulates the engine's temperature and doesn't freeze during winter UNLIKE water that freezes. In temperate and hot climate regions like 9ja, they use water instead of coolant which makes absolute sense. So, I disagree with the purpose of the gas being used. It's just another disaster waiting to happen. These danfo guys are mostly ignorant and illiterates. They risk innocent pple's lives all in the name of 'hustling'. 22 Likes 1 Share |

Am presently in one and yes dey all make a stop at that same gas station opposite MFM. Im always scared of entering it cos i feel its not just because gas is highly explosive But because of the stack illiterates that conttoling such a delicate tech. Dey hardly do any maintanance on dier vehicles How den will dey den ever know wen this cylinders are undergoing wear n needs to be maintained? Ww just begging for Gods mercy really 21 Likes |

This is forking dangerous. Even cars specifically made to use gas are dangerous, not to talk of this. And the bastard even put it under the seats? Just look at it, it's rusty. 25 Likes |

Good thinking good product! The position of the cylinder is perfect: under the car will expose it friction with the road and possibly explosion, on top of the car it will be exposed to heat. The pipe work as shown in the image is however poor. It should be encased in an inaccessible pipe and away from direct view of passengers. The risk here is no different from that in aeroplane, jet and rocket when done right. I'm sure the initial users of pms were equally scared. 8 Likes 1 Share |

IED on the move. This is what bokoharam are using to kill our soldiers in maiduguri. Its a very good and cheap means of transportation but since the work is not properly done, like every other things we do, without due diligence, its very dangerious. 13 Likes |

mank1234: SalamRushdie:That installation was so poorly done! The gas tank is supposed to be placed in the trunk, and NOT under the passenger's seat! Safety locks, anti-roll devices and valves are also absent. There should also be a fire-retardant casing surrounding the tank... 18 Likes 3 Shares |
