Police Equipment Fraud: Kenny Martins Remanded again

The troubles of the former Chairman of the Police Equipment Foundation (PEF), Chief Kenny Martins may be far from over as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on May, Thursday 20 ordered that he be remanded in prison custody following the withdrawal of one his sureties, Mr. Ade Jacobs.

Ruling on the application for withdrawal of the bail bond signed by Mr. Ade Jacobs, Justice Adamu Bello said a surety has the right to withdraw without attaching any condition and the court cannot compel any surety to be tied to a bail bond.

Justice Bello subsequently granted the application and discharged Mr. Ade Jacobs of the bond he entered into. The court also ordered the return of all documents submitted by Mr. Jacobs.

Lawyer representing the applicant, Mr. Abdulrahman Abubakar told the court that his client was simply dissatisfied standing as a surety for Chief Kenny Martins.

The order of the court was however unpalatable for the lawyer representing Martins, Chief Johny Ucheaga as he made frantic efforts to convince the court to allow his client go home since the second surety has not withdrawn his bail bond.

The prosecutor, Mister Thompson Olatigbe immediately asked for a date to enable the prosecution commence trial against Chief Martins.

With the order of the court, the former chairman of the police equipment foundation who is standing trial for alleged criminal diversion of funds belonging to the foundation may have to remain in prison custody until he secures another surety.
