Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) in collaboration with other Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) have marked 2018 global action week for education, calling on Federal and States Governments to keep to the pledges made in funding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs4).

The event with the theme titled: Accountability for the SDGs 4 through citizens’ participation: Keeping your promise” was held in Abuja. The event was organized by CSACEFA.

In his address, The National Moderator of CSACEFA, Malam Kabiru Aliyu described event as one of the major focal point for the education movement.

Aliyu said it provides everyone campaigning for the right to education with an opportunity to make target efforts to achieve change on the subject matter.

He said Nigerian and other developing countries have pledged to increase funds for education at the global Partnership for Education (GPE) financing conference.

“It is now time for the government to prove they are actually working towards financing public, equitable, inclusive and free education. This is the time to act. This is why we are calling on the Nigerians government both states and national level to keep to the pledges made in funding the SDGs 4 judiciously”. He said

According to him, Nigerian Government has signed into the global commitment of ensuring 12 years free, qualitative, compulsory and inclusive education for all by 2030.
But he said this commitment could not be achieved there was no adequate infrastructures in schools for learning, when teachers are not adequate in schools, most states have refused to access the UBEC fund, students and pupils still trekked long distance to schools among others.
In his presentation, the Executive Director, Centre for Women Youth and Community Action Lafia, Nwani Aboki highlighted key deliverables of SDGs4 which include: universal primary and secondary education, early access to technical and higher education and relevant skills for decent work among others.
Aboki said some of the ways of implementing SDGs4 include teacher and education, effective learning environment and scholarship.
He urged member organization of CSACEFA to put pressure on their state governments to fulfil their promises with credible and clear roadmap for the implementation of the SDGs4 agenda through various activities.
According to him, this could be achieve by using social media-led mobilisation, targeted advocacy, mass public rallies and high-level discussions with public authorities and policy makers.
In his remark, Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu said that national policy on education has universalized basic education aimed at providing equal opportunities to all Nigerians.
“After a critical look at the SDG4, its target and indicator, it became necessary for the sector to embark on a wide range of multi-level consultative forum. Hence the Ministry was the first MDA to lunch the SDGs and thereafter, underscoring the need for citizenship participation in delivering the SDG4, has engage the stakeholders in series of meeting of the way forward”.
According to him, after the munch SDG4 in February 2016, stakeholders from all levels of government were engaged in a meeting to examine institutional capacity for implementing the SDG4 in education.
