My car fire extinguisher is bad again. I bought it this year and it has expiration date of 2020 or so. I did a routine check this weekend and discovered that the gauge has moved to red mark 0. Same thing happened to the former one used.

Please, is there any way to refill or charge this stuff? Abi na fake have been buying

I think the money you'll spend to refill that thing might almost equate the price of new fire extinguisher.

U can visit office of Fight fighter at alausa, they are the one who normally refill my company's extinquisher or better still just walk up to any nearby store that deal with it for proper info.

Please do not let people play the Penny wise Pounds foolish. Even if we wont need it, one might be of help to another whose car is on fire.
Note: servicing your can do not assure you fire safety, it only reduces the risk of fire. I have heard of brand new cars went on flame.
In fact, just as servicing your car regularly is good, it can also expose you to fire hazards. As you rightly pointed out, Errors mainly from rewires are the number one cause of car fire.

Hmm, its not just the date that indicates if your extinguisher is serviceable.
Secondly, do not buy fire extinguisher just because of law enforcement agents, get one for fire safety.

Buy high quality. Most of these roadside Extinguishers are cheap and fake.

Servicing fire extinguishers goes beyond refilling. There are other components like the O-ring, the plunger puncture pin, the CO2 cartridge, condition of the fire fighting medium inside etc that needs to be checked. If you are not trained in servicing it, its almost certain you cannot do it.

It is also necessary you know the safety measures/precautions to put in place because a pressurised cylinder can injure you if not handled properly. Most mini extinguishers for cars are produced to expire and need no servicing. If its dry chemical powder medium, all you can do is just to agitate/shake the extinguisher to ensure it doesnt cake-up inside. But wait, ensure the safety pin is properly inserted before shaking.

Like someone posted, your best option is to get a new one. You are not suppose to service any fire extinguishers unless you are trained and certified.

Just buy another and make sure person no dey press am for fun like my nephew did my first two. Costs just 2k na instead of looking to refill at God knows how much.

Its good to have, my former home once caught fire from the meter side and would have burnt the house down. I took the one in my car and sprayed it. I never knew the power it possessed til dat day. See fire just bow. Also, a car caught fire in Area 11 junction and would have been scrap if not that almost every car brought out their extinguishers and saved the car.
Pls ensure u have a fire extinguisher both at home and in the car. You can never tell the day it will comenin handy.

I don't think it is refillable, but when you get a new one, don't try to test it, if you do, the gauge will return to "0", I think it is meant to be used once.

All types of Fire Extinguishers ARE REFILLABLE. Take it to where you bought it, if the seller is a major distributor, he'll take it and refill it for you for say half of the cost of purchase of a new one.

You have to be careful though as they may want to play a fast one on you by not giving you a full refill.
