The candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the forthcoming election in Ekiti State, Akin Ayegbusi has condemned the violence and shedding of blood at a political rally on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
This is against the shooting of a former governorship aspirant in the state, Opeyemi Bamidele and other unidentified persons at a rally to welcome the gubernatorial candidate of APC, Kayode Fayemi to the state on Friday.
According to a statement by the Director General of Akin Ayegbusi Campaign Organisation, Yemi Akinbode, “It is unfortunate that a reception meant to welcome a governorship candidate would result into shedding of blood and shooting of innocent citizens of the state. As a matter of fact, this is condemnable and entirely uncalled for. No matter what transpired at the venue, one salient thing is that; it is preventable and should not have happened. Nobody should disturb the process and the peaceful conduct of the election under any disguise.” He said.
Speaking further, Ayegbusi reiterated his commitment as well as that of SDP to restoration of the lost glory of the state. He said; “at this juncture I want to appeal to every good citizen of the state to seek an alternate in a party that is determined and committed to reposition the state for greatness. We in SDP are noble people; we condemn every act of violence in its totality. We therefore use this opportunity to call on every stakeholder in this Ekiti project as well as the electorates in general to support the enviable alternate that SDP is proposing for a better future of the state
It is obvious that Ekiti people are anxiously waiting for a desirable change which only the SDP can provide as both the PDP and APC have failed to deliver dividends of democracy. Hence the decision of Ekiti people to vote for a new party and a capable and vibrant candidate is paramount which is in Akin Ayegbusi which the SDP is presenting.
