Diane Abbott famously compared Nigeria to Jamaica and suggested that Nigeria was a failed state. Considering current developments in Jamaica with failed attempts to extadite Dudus, was she speaking out of turn?

This is one of the reason BLACK people are backward.

Instead of them to work together and formulate strategies to better the lots of their people, they are busy comparing who is better than the other.

Gully is more known than Gaza tongue

Second she didn't lie about Nigeria in her article, I love Nigerians but some of you have shown us no mercy with the insults on this site, in articles and in person. it's just a taste of the bitter medicine. and Lastly who is Dudus compared to some of Africa's biggest warlords? Dudus is some punk living off of his adopted father's name. He's a nobody compared to someone who commited genocide and extortion! Stones should not be thrown on either sides however, I am not going to stand for one sidedness. I wont tolerate it. Hate me for it, your problem.

Africa is a continent not a country, so whiles warlords in some African countries make Dudus insignificant the Dudus affair (i.e. one criminal bringing a whole country to a standstill and fighting the army for days) would not happen in a lot of more stable African countries. Afterall barring war zones in Africa and maybe south africa, Jamaica is more voilent than all african countries in terms of murders as a proportion of population

Diane Abbot might have had a point but the comparison in my opinion was uncalled for.

First of all I know Geography well. I am not ignorant to the fact that Africa is a continent however I said Africa because it is not just Nigerians who think ill of Jamaicans. And if you seriously believe KINGSTON a city in Jamaica (not the whole TINY island btw) has a higher murder rate than any African country you are sadly misinformed. Dudus didnt fight anyone he was running, it was his community a SMALL community in Jamaica that was trying to barr the army from infiltrating and getting him. You are right she should not have compared the two after all a running coward like Dudus' situation is hardly the same as a murderous warlord seeking and being GRANTED assylum in a "stable" country. lipsrsealed

Think you should be careful about generalising too much because firstly not all Africans think ill of Jamaicans, actually some Africans really like Jamaicans and rightly so, there is a growing Jamaican community in Ghana for instance. Secondly rivalries exist on both sides it's not as one sided as you make it sound although love also exists on both sides.

I was probably misled by the media as we all are on occasions about developments relating to Dudus but the footage looked disturbing.

Based on the size and population it would be preposterous to compare the murder rate of Jamaica to africa in absolute terms. That's why I specifically said in my post that "murder as a proportion of the population" and that you cannot deny. Jamaica has been top five for about a decade, currently only places like Brazil, south Africa and columbia have higher rates, no need arguing just google it.

A country like Ghana which is also in Africa by the way, is at least a million times safer than Jamaica. Fact!!

Jamaica is a lot safer than Ghana, they depend on tourism

South Africa also depends a lot on tourism- that doesn't mean its safer

I have been to Spanish Town, Montego Bay, Clarendon etc and as African American, there is no way to distinguish between a visitor and resident
Go to Accra and tell me your experience whether visiting and/or GUARDED

Are you kidding me?? Ghana is 10.5 times the population of Jamaica, on average total number of recorded murders for ghana a year is less that 60 whiles it's around 1000 a year in jamaica, you do the maths. You would have to be very unintelligent to compare two countries based on what you felt waking the streets, how unscientific is that?! There is a reason why Jamaica is number 3 on the most recent murders per capita list and Ghana isn't even top 80, what a joke!! Man are you literate?

So again as an AA or Nigerian American, I was simply saying that you can blend in and even admire Africans. Anybody that has ever been to Jamaica will attest to that. I have been to Via and Maypen, how deep is that?

Yes the killings per capita in Jamaica is more, but most of these killings are gang/drug/deals related, these guys dont just go about killing anybody. Otherwise Jamaica is peaceful and safe.

Man, just shut it! Yeah, your a citizen, still doesnt change the fact that your Nigerian/African. Wht the hell is this "Nigerian-American" ish? Are u seeking acceptance so bad?

Ok, lemme ask u a question; when u speak who do you sound like, Phillip Emegweali or Wesley Snipes?

Who do u bear a closer Physical resemblance to, Shemar Moore or Djimon Hansou?

If u dont look like Shemar Moore  and/or have an American accent like Wesley Snipes when u speak, how then can u look outta place walking the streets of Kingston?
