A possibility is that there could be an underground methane leak in the vicinity.

Or the neighbour had his generator exhaust pouring fumes into their house. That was how a church close to our house in Port harcourt faced their stupid Generator exhaust into our yard it took them a while to listen to our complaints. I guess we would have had their attention sooner if we were rude and had involved the police from day one.

A generator does not fully account for the smell the neighbors reported.

Building house on a disputed land could be lethal and dangerous. Beware, many has gone.
