It is no longer news that the Lagos state government has taken delivery of some new metro buses, these buses according to the governor will replace the danfos (the popular yellow buses in Lagos). As cheerful as this news sounds, it comes with confusion as there are some pictures of a mini bus going around before and now we are seeing another version. AutoReportNG decided to do some digging to clarify the misconceptions.

The Lagos state governor was quoted in April saying that the proposed Bus Reform Initiative aimed at giving Lagosians an integrated public transportation system would kick-start this year with a sinking fund of N30billion.

He said the Bus Reform Initiative is a three-year plan aimed at introducing over 5000 air-conditioned buses to replace the yellow commercial buses, popularly called Danfo, which according to him, was no longer befitting for the State’s mega city status.

“We decided that the best thing is to allow the yellow buses go and so the Bus Reform Initiative itself is a three-year plan of 2017 to 2019 in which it intends to bring in new buses of 5,000 units in the three-year plan.

“The bigger size buses will take 70 people (Marcopolo)
and then the medium range buses will take 30 people (Mini Buses). We believe that the middle range buses will be supplied up to 70 percent of the total volume which will amount to about 3,600 units and then the longer range in that direction,” he said.

What this means is that the 5000 units buses will be the Marcopolo Brand of buses will accommodate at least 70 people at a go while the mini-buses which is of 3,600 units will take about 30 people at a go. So in all, the LASG is expecting at 8,600 units of buses to fully eradicate the danfos in the state. The mini-buses will go to places the bigger can't go and also go to places that are narrow as well.

These are some more pictures to show you that the buses are ready and ready for action. Our investigation, however, reveals that the Marcopolo buses may be going through Oshodi - Abule Egba axis using the Ikeja Terminus as its boarding station. We keep our fingers crossed as we promised to give you the latest gists as it unravels

This is a welcome development, I mean most danfos are no longer fit for transportation there are many of them with bad parts, but for new Lagos buses it's a question of maintenance for continued long term care.

Important question.
But can our local manufacturers get 8,600 buses ready in 3 years?
Maybe due to cost (marcopolo might be cheaper)

But even Nigerian inter-city transport companies hardly buy Nigerian.

I doubt if the buses would be enough for people in Lagos without hassle and fighting to get seat considering the high influx of people into the state on daily basis.
The new buses better use the BRT lane . service and express lane for private users please.
The way and manner the BRT drivers intimidate private users on express lane is annoying(cuz of size and Na Govt property). They should stick to their BRT lane please.

It's as if God himself is smiling down on Lagos. D state is progressing so much dt Lagosians dnt care abt the amt of money stolen by her leaders. Dts wot happens wen leaders do their jobs-their iniquities are overlooked.

Kano would hv been at par or even better if nt two things.

1. Though not strigent, bt Sharia is active in dt state. U can NEVER have meanful development in a state dt is under strigent religious control. Ask Saudi, Qatar and UAE.

2. D erratic nature of most states in northern Nigeria. Ethnic and religious fight can brk out anytime.

1. I wish it were made by IVM, but I know it would be costly
2. I think a more tolerant colour like black or wine should have been used. Lagosian would wear that blue off in a matter of week, it would be looking like a carton.
3. I'm not one to support any party, but I just want to state for the records that Ambode is the best governor Lagos has ever had. Silent and working.

Those that are working need not to bribe their way through for the second term.Ambode is working and people are seeing it and Lagos is working. This is what we desire all over Nigeria not divide-and-rule system.Watch those governors that are not working ,they are the ones causing stir and crisis in their states. You know them and I know them.
