Hibiscus drink is made from the red calyces of the Roselle plant known as Hibiscus sabdariffa. It grows in some northern states of Nigeria including Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Katsina and Borno. Zobo, as it is popularly known in Nigeria is native to northern Nigeria but overtime, its consumption has gained wide acceptance all over Nigeria for several reasons, including the fact that it is an effective thirst quencher.

The specie Hibiscus sabdariffa is native to West Africa. Other species can be found in various parts of the world and their calyces too are also infused to make hibiscus drink/tea. It is known as Sorrel in some parts of the world. It is also known as Roselle.

The hibiscus drink/tea is prepared by infusion from the dried calyces of the plant. Other ingredients like ginger, cloves, lime, lemon, pineapple, natural flavours, sugar can be added to give it a good taste. The drink without these other ingredients has a very soured berry taste. It can be taken hot as a herb or chilled as a refreshing drink. Either ways, its medicinal properties are still retained.

In Nigeria, it is usually served cold while in parts of Cameroon and Egypt, it is usually served hot and taken as herb infusion.

The colour of Zobo could be light red, dark red, wine colour or ‘cola’ colour depending on the quantity of water used in preparing it and how long it is left in the water. Also, other ingredients can alter its colour, for example, mixing it with blended strawberries will give it a bright red colour while mixing it with blended banana will give it its normal colour.

zobICE by Super Carts Ng is the name we have given to this very refreshing natural drink nature has provided for mankind.

The name is a fusion of zobo and iced, we decided to take ‘zob’ out of Zobo and ‘ice’ out of iced to give zobICE! which is always chilled, just the way you love it. The drink is usually prepared by adding other natural ingredients to the infused hibiscus tea.

Ingredients used for zobICE drink are: Dried calyces of roselle plant, Ginger, Cloves, select natural flavours (variety options). Syrup and honey (for special orders).

zobICE can be enjoyed by everyone (but 3 categories of people) and for all occasions.
