'Does any know what LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY is called in their mother tongue'

Ihe mmiri mmiri kpukoro akpuko na e gosikwa

Go figure, guys.

Absolutely i agree with the guy that hinted that no nation can be technologically strong with out kids being taught basic sciences; Integrated science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) in the native language.

It just cannot work. A friend went to South Korea and could not find Windows XP English version anywhere in the shops to install. That is the way to go.

But who do you blame here, when all your job applications/interviews are conducted in English?

LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

Someone asked if LCD can be translated into their native language. Here you go “Likwi crista diplay”:-)

Yoruba language tends to be very descriptive which is probably partly due to underdeveloped/stagnated vocabulary.

I speak Lagos Yoruba and I write it by phonetically spelling out the syllables. If I can vocalize it, I can easily spell it by stringing the syllables together. Reading is a little harder as it requires me to try different sounding syllables until it makes sense.

I have given up on languages but I would want my kids to be multilingual (Yoruba, English, French, and Chinese).

@ OP thanks for your observation.
I am in my mid-twenties and can speak, read and write Edo lang( my mother tongue) fluently. The issue of mother tongue neglect is more common with minority ethnic groups in the Niger Delta region. Some languages in Edo state have gone extinct within the last 15 years, some others have less than 20 speakers. Its a sad state of affairs. A lot of parents speak only English to their kids at home out of ignorance thinking it is the civilised thing to do. Well,i never spoke any English until i started school and i did well, even better than my peers in learning Eng Lang. Research has shown that children who are exposed to several languages before they are 5 when their Language Acquisition Device (LAD) is at its most active state will master all of them.

BTW, LCD -Liquid Crystal Display may not have a single word to match it in our native languages because our languages have not grown or coined suitable words to accommodate new words and expressions  especially the ones that have no root in our culture. Can you think of a word for snow in your native language? I didnt say a word that describes snow, but an equivalent word meaning snow?Aha! Therein lies your answer.

Re: How Well Can You Speak Your Mother Tongue? by gmailer: 8:46pm On Jun 10, 2010
I wish i could speak my mother-tongue fluently (or even at all), and i'd love to learn other languages (Hausa, Yoruba).
I completely understand when my parents speak to me, but i cant reply (quite shameful tho), but i probably wasn't born with that ability.
Do hope my kids will be different, (learn from my partner)

fairly well, why do you ask.
Re: How Well Can You Speak Your Mother Tongue? by tpia1: 6:47am On Jul 08, 2014
suntemi1: I always envy my mum whenever she speaks yoruba in Ekiti dialect. She will be like 'Yeye re siko'? and the reply will be 'O wa lule'.  I can speak lagos yoruba wellaly but other ones men 'I dey struggle ni'.

that should be "e lule", not "o wa lule" which mixes standard yoruba with the dialectal one.

Not well.

I'm horrible at it.
