Gov Sacks Third Wife, Police Seize Her Vehicles

Governor of Bauchi State and the in-law of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Mallam Isa Yuguda has sacked his third wife, Mariya A. D. Ruafi, whom he married 10 years ago.

The circumstances surrounding the governor’s divorce mess were not clear, but sources revealed to Ureports, an on line news blog, that the first lady, Mariya, returned to Bauchi from a medical trip to Germany when Yuguda ordered her out of the house, giving her a deadline of two hours or police eviction.

According to the report, Governor Yuguda ordered her not to remove any property and also instructed the police to retrieve her vehicles and other gifts. The police have since carried out the governor’s orders.

However, they (Police) were unable to stop Mariya from taking along her three children. She managed to escape with them and her whereabouts has since remained unknown.

Unconfirmed reports alleged that she may have escaped overseas with her children.

Investigations revealed that the bickering started when on 5 May, 2010 President Umaru Yar’Adua died and was buried the following day in Katsina and Mariya, who was on a medical trip to Germany, was absent. Governor Yuguda was enraged by her absence, reports said.

The relationship of the Bauchi State governor and his wife had been frosty for two reasons. First, she was accused of leaking important information about the state to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed.

Second, Mariya reportedly congratulated the new Minister of the Abuja Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Bala Mohammed. Yuguda and Yayale do not enjoy a cordial relationship with Bala. The daughter of Senator A.D. Rufai, a second republic lawmaker, Mariya was previously married to Aliko Dangote but moved to Yuguda in 1999/2000 in a “family arrangement.”

Yuguda has three other wives. Aisha, Abiodun and Yar’Adua’s daughter. But a source close to Yuguda family said Mariya’s divorce may not be the last. Since her father is dead, the source said, Yuguda may soon divorce Yar’Adua’s daughter.

^^in arab and some nigerian culture, most times in the event of a divorce, the woman isnt allowed to take the kids.

^^^ seconded. Most of them have shown that they cannot managed their home affairs, and  therefore cannot be trusted with the affairs more complex like that of a state.

There should be firm laws to protect women from this sort of rubbish in the country. There is no saying that Yuguda has no right to divorce his wife - that is his private life; but how can the police be involved in ejecting the woman? How can he seize all of her property and gifts? She contributed to the household and that must be recognised in Nigerian law. I am tired of hearing these horrible stories. . . Yuguda is supposed to be a leader for goodness sake!
Last time it was the ex Deji of Akure beating his wife in public to the extent that she is in hospital, but he is still walking around a free man. Lets prove to ourselves and the World that our women and girls have rights.

I can see and hear the gov. Yugudas of Nigeria asking if Goodluck and Patient have a small girl that would become their 29th wife now

Good Lord has that happened? Sad it did but happy for her having gotten her three kids. I happen to now Mariya way back in 1985 in the university when she was reading Law.

This was not Mariya's 2nd marriage as stated by the poster but the 3rd marriage. She was 1st married to Lela Muhktar (GM Arewa hotels) in Kaduna upto around 1987, when she got divorced and Married Aliko Dangote, the marriage lasted for just six months.

None of the marriages yielded an issue. She worked in the state in many capacity including being Commissioner for women affairs. Finally got married to Yuguda and was blessed with 3 kids.

Sad it did happen but happy for her she has 3 kids to look upto, as for Yuguda pray he gets a change of attitude of marrying and divorcing, after all he is a father of many including the girls (who will equally get married one day).

Y'all fail to see thru this charade.This is to create space for a brand new wife.impeccable sources in the govt house have informed me that Yuguda is due to leave for Egypt anytym soon, to finish arrangements for his own 13 yr old.God help us.
