Interesting. This direct primaries exercise looks like a mock election to mobilize the party's support base in preparation for the election proper.

I think this direct primary makes sense than for some delegates to be selecting the flagbearer and its less likely to be accused of imposition if that large number of people support you

If you want to be governor, reach out to the grassroot have people in every village know you not just some selected delegates. This is what you call testing your popularity not just bribing a few people
