This amazing Trackway truck can roll out 50 metres of temporary aluminum roadway across hostile environments like forests, snow, marsh, mud and sand for vehicles to pass in under six minutes.

The trackway truck is designed by Faun Trackway and it provides a high traction surface to gain access to, or recover equipment from hostile or inaccessible environment.

See how it works

The rolled up aluminum roadway is turned 90 degrees. The truck then drives in reverse to lay the roadway ( like a carpet) underneath itself.

This method also reduces the possibility of the truck getting stuck while rolling out the temporary roadway.

The truck can also carry an additional 50 metres of trackway towed behind the vehicle on a trailer, enabling longer roadways to be laid quickly and connected easily.

It is widely used in military and civilian disaster and emergency relief operations (I doubt if Nigerian Millitary has one), where rapid access to cut-off areas is essential.

What do you think about this amazing Trackway truck?

This makes very little practicable sense..

Having watched the video, these are my conclusions..

The stability and usability of that temporary road wholely depends on the stability of the terrain on which it is laid sad.....So it's more like a glorified red-carpet whose practicality adds very little or no stability or motorability to the terrain where it is laid).

The reason for my conclusion is this....if one watches the video carefully, one will notice that aluminium road when laid shakes like a normal rolling track....the kind used by armoured tanks...this means it swells, shakes or stays straight depending on the terrain where it is deployed undecided

This means that the track is only as stable as the terrain where it is laid.....all those vehicles which were offloaded from that carrier in the video could very easily have made it across that beach sand on their own without the need for that white elephant track....even toddlers hardly get stuck in beach sand grin..like I previously pointed out, the way that track shakes because it consists of a chain of loosely joined aluminium sheets makes it practically unusable in swampy areas (where it will sink into the swamps since it has no external support of its own and wholely depends for support on the terrain in which it is laid) and will most likely break into pieces if heavy vehicles move on it on unstable terrain with sharp and uneven rocks jutting out everywhere

I don't even want to talk about the disaster that will occur if this thing is employed over weak frozen snow ......if the snow cracks, both the track, the vehicle laying it, the vehicles using it and any other being unfortunate enough to be on it at that point are all sinking immediately sad

Even the terrain where the exhibition video was made indicated that the manufacturers of that thing can't trust it beyond deployment as beach or forest red carpet or at worst, as temporary cover for pot-holes.....

If the promoters of that thing thought otherwise, they would have employed it in more unstable environments like swamps, unstable rocky surfaces, or melting snow....after all isn't it best advertising to showcase your product at its best practicality? ....just like that bulletproof car manufacturer who sat in his vehicle while the car was being machine-gunned.....imagine if after alleging the vehicle was bulletproof, and then the manufacturers during adverts, went on to test the bulletproof vehicle by throwing fire-crackers at it grin.....That will amount to silly and imsufficuent advertising...just like what the promoters of that white-elephant track have done in that video undecided

Any major instability in terrain, and that track is as useless as the 'p' in psychology angry

Unique technology. This is creative. If someone comes up with this idea in Nigeria, he will die unnoticed. Courtesy to the countries who respects and adopt innovations.
