If the new wage can be announced and payment starts before december this year, buhari 2nd term will be sure while that of the pdp will be 0.000 percent.30%-50% of voters in nigeria are usually public servants.they care more about salaries than any thing same as an average nigerian.no matter how a governor or president delivers in terms of infrastructure, being unable to ensure regular alary payment will bring down his rating in the public eye except that leader has a good excuse like aregbe.
History has shown that almost all governors that fail in regular salary payment dont get re-elected and vice versa.the increment of the minimum wage in 2011 helped to get gej victory.findings show that the 2nd largest group of voters are traders who heavily rely on patronage from government workers.increment of the salary scale will allow them increase prices slightly and also increase their levels of sales which will give the government favourable rating.
Again, most government workers have several people who depend on them.some could be up to voting age.this increment will certainly sway their choice during next year polls.if the government can announce the new wage and start payment before christmas, workers will have a happy and blissful yuletide.they would savour the euphoria and ecstasy which will last till after next year polls.

This guy sef. Assuming but not conceding that Federal Government workers would automatically vote for Buhari because of increase in salaries (what a joke)....what's the percentage of Nigeria's working population employed by the Federal Government?

Compare that with the population of Nigerians that are self employed, employed by the private sector, and employed by state governments (I'm not even including the vast population of the unemployed). Only then would you realise how ludicrous your postulation is.

If you had any idea about statistics you would realise that 1 + 1 isn't always 2.

When a man has a family of maybe 4 or 5 and his salary is increased in this present government do you think that increase would not affect his family positively and he would not laud this government before his family?

He would have just gotten 4 voters for PMB by his singular action.

Let's assume there are 2 million workers who this increase affects and each attract 4 would that not be 8million votes for PMB just like that?

Getting an additional 8million to make it a landslide would then be a stroll in the park

LOL. Trying to use natural science methods (quantitative methodology, statistics) to analyse and predict social phenomena (e.g. politics) would always produce woefully inaccurate results.

Then again, even if we use statistics just to create some context, the fact remains that whatever effect the salary increase of Federal Government workers has (increases in minimum wage often only apply to federal workers, most states and private employers are still struggling to pay the current minimum wage increased over a decade ago) is inconsequential when compared to the vast majority of the overall population.

But more importantly, you can't be sure that even the benefitting federal government workers and their so-called dependants would vote for Buhari simply because of a dodgy increase in salaries. That's a hasty and sweeping assumption that can't be backed by any reasonable explanation - in light of the gross failings of this administration and the intense feelings of despair, sufferings and misery it has unleashed on the masses over the last three years. All of these can't be undone with a mere salary increase motivated by political point-seeking and desperation. Federal workers are sufficiently enlightened, and they can and will see right through the deceit.

Let me leak something to you.

The bill for this new minimum wage is ready to be sent to NASS from the presidency and PDP senators want to resist it.

You say the federal workers are enlightened and would see through this " deceit " right?

Watch and see who they will go after. If it is the FG or those PDP miscreants in NASS for standing against a bill that means well for them and their family.

Regarding the rest of your comment, I just shredded them due to their meaninglessness.

Oga,my post is very simple to comprehend.i said a large amount of voters are workers whose main concern is receiving salary.what matters primarily to nigerians is food and salary payment and increment will make them support the government more.several other voters depend on this workers.this will also affect traders positively.this would therefore attract massive votes.
Let me use a simpler analogy.i work for a company that elects its m.d every four years.shortly before the polls to elect a new md,the incumbent md increases salaries three times.this company has 1000 staffs.naturally, majority of the staffs including me will vote for him when the time comes.
Nigerians dont see salary increase as dodgy.they are easily swayed by quantitative increases.nothing else matters.we havent reached that enlightenment level to resist being swayed.only developed nations can do such.please, interact more with the masses and feel the public view

U think civil servants in Nigeria will vote a full blown murdering dullardic fossil that has sent Nigeria to ruins because of minimum wage

buhari is headed for daura, increasing salaries won't end the killings in the middle belt that he supervised, neither will it end the 300% increment in the prices of goods n services across Nigeria.

dream on Afonja, dream on.

By the time Mumuharri finishes with this 2019 elections, there will be no money to even fuel the presidential limousines.

Collateral free loans, huge minimum wage, massive election budget. Na war oh!

My rebuttal is exceedingly clear, that contrary to your claim, a large percentage of voters are not workers - and more specifically - are not workers who fall under the category of those who would benefit from any so-called increase in the minimum wage (as this typically applies only to federal workers).

Then again, you cannot claim that "Nigerians" are politically swayed by salary increase. That's a wild and sweeping generalisation that you cannot justify by any means.

I suspect you don't live in a big city/state. Maybe places like Calabar, Abakaliki, Ekiti and the rest of them where every local beer parlour, buka and ATM comes alive only at month end when government workers' salaries are paid because only salary earners can afford anything in such dead-end mono-economy small states.

The big cities/states where the millions of votes come from, including the likes of Lagos, Kano, Rivers , etc are NOT run on government workers salaries. I need you to be very clear on this because you persist in your fallacious arguments.

You can't compare this with private company workers who favour a tenure elongation of their MD who increased their salaries. In the case of the company, the electorate consist of ONLY the workers, whereas like I mentioned, in the broader context of Nigeria's population, federal workers (including their dependants and those within their ecosystems of direct influence) can't constitute up to 10% of the total electorate.

Even at that, you can't conclude that Federal workers and their dependants would automatically vote for Buhari because he increased the minimum wage. That's a fallacy.

Except that minimum wage does not only affect fg workers. Besides fg workers will be a plus to the many millions that want him back. Remember he won an election wen he didn't yet have them, so now imagine adding the entire civil service to his already guaranteed voters. PDP stands no chance. Sowore will be schooled. Durotoye won't even make it to d ballot box grin

Most of us in private sector are also waiting for the increase in minimum wage. This is enable most employers to increase salaries too. I have many people who share same opinion.

Buhari's action and body language even utterances brought about price instability. Most of the macro objectives challenges we have today was self induced by the current government and was avoidable.
