Ibadan — Former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State, Nigeria's centre of excellence, took a dig at the neighbouring Oyo at the weekend, scoffing that there is no government in the state, because Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala has failed to provide basic social infrastructure.

Tinubu made the point at the commissioning of a N72 million Baptist Cottage Hospital in Omi-Adio, a suburb of Ibadan, solely financed by Adeniyi Akintola, a legal practitioner.

The occasion also marked the foundation laying ceremony of another N500 million 150-bed Baptist Specialist Hospital in Omi-Adio, equally being footed by Akintola.

He asked Alao-Ajala to buckle up before he is sent packing from Agodi Government House.

Tinubu noted that, whereas in Lagos, "There is no ward that has no health centre and no local government that has no hospital aside the stationing of ambulances in every strategic location across the state in case of accident," a place as big as Omi-Adio in Oyo State has no medical centre.

This, he said, made the effort of Akintola to be highly appreciated, adding that there are a lot of people 300 times richer than him who would rather hoard their wealth only to flaunt it at burial and other "owanbe" ceremonies.

Former Chief Justice Muhammadu Uwais, who chaired the ceremony, also applauded Akintola for his philanthropy, saying it is a sign of his concern and commitment to humanity.

Tinubu admonished the people on the need to hold elected leaders accountable, because until such is done, they will continue to take them for a ride.

He said the people should be the cornerstone of every government policy and could not see any reason why a radius of 20 miles would be without a medical centre, wondering how the council's monthly allocation is spent.

He commended Akintola for "his passionate concern for the health of the people of the community," maintaining that without good health, there can be no growth.

Praying for more Akintolas in the society, Tinubu emphasised the importance of putting credible people in positions of authority and insisted that those who fraudulently get into office should be voted out.

"Until they are shown the way out, the society would not be free from the shackles of poverty, ignorance, illiteracy, diseases they have subjected the people to."

He said Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Attahiru Jega, will not be able to conduct a free and fair ballot without a new voter register.

His words: "It must happen. Now we cannot continue to scratch it on the surface. The opposite is dangerous. It is what I will describe as mutually assured destruction, anarchy.

"Yes, it is possible. We better do it right once and for all. It is a thing that is so easy. Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India are able to register their voters. Bangladesh registered about 80 million people without duplication."

See Tinubu, a failed governor, calling another failed governor to question? How can two house rats fight each other when there is enough to grab in the kitchen?

Exactly!
He was also very heavily fined (about $500,000) for being involved in drug running in the US.

In as much i respect most of your posts,I am disappointed in this.He was never fined for any drug runnings in Chicago.
He was suspected of being in a drug ring but no evidence whatsoever was found to nail, pin or link him to the charges.
To him it was a clear case of "guilty by association".
He voluntarily forfeited less than $500k met in his account which the judge claimed is not well accounted for.And that was the period when progressives in Diaspora were "oiling" international press to put pressure on the then FG for the actualisation of June 12.Tinubu was thick in its action and as such funds were traced to his account.Despite massive interrogations on the case,he was acquited of all charges after agreeing to forfeit the $500k.And this judgement was delivered by a judge who has the most conservative records in Chicago's legal/judicialhistory.

And do you think his 8 years as lagos Governor is a failure? If you think so,then you might not be as intelligent as i think. His achievements are there for all to see and fashola till date is still attributing his success to the foudations and plans laid down by his predeccessor-Bola Tinubu.
I am not saying Bola Tinubu is a saint but he definitely deserves more than those unwarranted comments.

What were Tinubus' achievements except bringing in Fasola? Can anyone show what Tinubu did in Lagos except Fasola and thuggery upon rigging?

Mr Fire:

It offends the sensibilities of an independent observer to describe Tinubu as a failed governor, at least in Nigeria. Apart from laying the foundation for what we see in Lagos today, his courage in fighting for democracy and clear-headedness in canvassing for true federalism are unrivalled compared to other political office holders. His fights have deepened democracy and his ability to surround himself with clever people is commendable. He is a master strategist whose brilliance is unmatched by any of his peers and comptemporaries, even his foes admit that, with or without federal might. He is gifted with foresight and he has been consistent since he came into public limelight. For you to write-off Tinubu, you must mention another Nigerian politician (living of course) that dwarfs him when you consider the aforementioned or other specific performance indicators that you are free to add. Nature abhors vacuum, you know. I am not saying he does not have his failings though.

Haba, sincerely and without prejudice, are you saying that Tinubu DID NOT achieve ANYTHING while in office? That his only achievement is Fashola? This is the first time I'm hearing this, even from die-hard opposition members. Your answer will determine whether one should continue with this thread or not.

@mr fire.am not sure you live in lagos.the asiwaju is definately not a saint but is a man I and millions of people hold in high esteem becourse he did or started projects no other governor can boast of.the man is simply an enigma.look around lagos,he and his team conceived all you see today,of course brf was in that team!

Whether Tinubu was a failed or successful governor is not enough for him to make such comments.
Anyway, is a political statement. Telling the whole world that PDP in Oyo State has failed and paving way for AC, come 2011.

Now back to the issue of Tinubu as a supposed failed governor. With due respect, i think it will be too unfair to say he failed.
I wish the poster saw Edo state during the disastrous  rule of Lucky Igbinedion, then he would probably appreciate Tinubu.

Really?

According to the Verified Complaint for forfeiture in case No. 93 C 4483 Obtained by SaharaReporters, which was filed on July 26, 1993 before the Hon. Judge Nordberg of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the United States Government urged the Court to order the forfeiture of  funds   in accounts Nos. 263226700 held by First Heritage Bank in the name of Bola Tinubu, funds in accounts 39483134, 39483396, 4650279566, 00400220, 39936404 and 39936383 held by Citibank N.A in the name of Bola Tinubu and funds in accounts 52050-89451952,52050-89451952, 52050-89451953 held by Citibank in the name of Bola Tinubu because there was probable cause to believe that the funds in Tinubu's bank accounts represented proceeds of narcotics trafficking or were monies involved in financial transactions in violations of 18 U.S.C, sections 1956 and 1957 and therefore, was forfeitable to the U.S Government.
http://pointblanknews.com/os1147.html

And here is the proof that Tinubu did not "voluntarily" forfeit $500,000.00 drug money to the US govt. Men like Tinubu, Saraki, Ibori and IBB need to be locked up and the key thrown away. Instead, they roam around our corridors of power with their worshippers; poluting government with outrageous levels of corruption.

These people calling Tinubu a failure, were they living in the "cave" as Akin Alabi would say.
If Tinibu was a failure, then that word must have gotten a new meaning.

Health. The only state in the country where you enjoy free ambulance and treatment.
  I have beneited from this.

Justice.
First to recognise the importance of Judges. Befitting cars and now I hear some
of the courts use electronic devices.

Security. Definitely  treats Police better than any other state.

Education. Teachers are well paid and I hear he pays them xmas bonuses.
Polythechnics and university well funded. Fees reasonable. In Ekiti and Osun State school fees
hover around #250,000

Transportation. BRT was stasted by him. LASTMA may overdo things but they have definitely
brought sanity to the roads in Lagos

On Principle. He wrestled Obasanjo and his PDP to the gorund and pinned them therre.

Succession. He groomed Fasola the current best. This alone is enough .

Yoruba Leadership .This is most important to me. He has been the rallying point of the
Yorubas since the demise of Chief Bola Ige.

I do not live in Lagos I only visit. If those guys want to see real failures let them travel to the states whose capitals are Ibadan, Oshogbo and Ado Ekiti.

Let Tinubu be. The Asiwaju of the Yorubas

Which schools in Ekiti and Osun states charge as high as N250,000 as fees?

Former Governor Tinubu did not justify his time as the Executive Governor of Lagos State. His 8 years at the helm of affairs in Lagos brought the city to her knees. I wept for Lagos like I never did for my home state because Lagos is Nigeria. A failed Lagos is a failed Nigeria, and Tinubu nearly finished the state. Now, kettle is calling pot black. Thank God for Fashola, who resurrected the city and gave it life. Can any one show me anything to justify Tinubu's time except a few roads in Isale-Eko done at God Knows how much. The old man should just retire completely, and stop distracting those working. At the right time, proper evaluation will be done of them. Abeg, Asuwaju, go rest and chop your loot.
Re: There Is No Government In Oyo-tinubu by oisehumen(m): 3:12pm On Jun 29, 2010
Tinubu did very well in terms of infrastructures and loading so much money into his bank accounts  grin grin grin grin grin grin grin.
Fashola is doing same. Good job so far; road constructions everywhere. Spending just N5 Billion on a few kilometers road.  grin grin grin grin grin grin  No wonder he avoiding probe.  grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin. If u think u are clean, submit yourself to probe.

For now; Nigerians are not too interested whether u loot or not; just perform. That's all.

Can you pls explain the shape at which the state was when Asiwaju became governor?
Who initiated most of the jobs being executed/completed by BRF?

Sure, he stole money from the government coffer yet he still performs more better than the idiot called Akala; while Akala has stolen what Tinubu stole in 8 yrs in just 4 yrs.

Our human brain functions in a unique way, to determine if something is hot, the brain must compare the input from different sources — and then make many other comparisons as well. All our actions are governed by the law of comparisom.

Those saying Tinubu was a failed governor might be Wrong or Right, Depending on how their brain process the input,
IN COMPARISON TO OBASANJO - TINUBU WAS A SAINT
IN COMPARISON TO ORJI UZOR KALU - TINUBU WAS A SUCCESSFUL GOVERNOR
IN COMPARISON TO IBORI - TINUBU WAS A FANTASTIC GOVERNOR
IN COMPARISON TO OBAMA - TINUBU WAS A FAILURE
IN COMPARISON TO CNN REPORT ON LAGOS - TINUBU WAS NOT SERIOUS
IN COMPARISON TO ZIK, AWOLOWO AND THE FOUNDING FATHER - TINUBU WAS A DISASTER.

IT ALL DEPENDS - WE HAVE TO ACCOMMODATE EVERYONE'S POINT OF VIEW

IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU LOOK AT IT

Ibori really improved the infrastructure in Delta state, what we indegenes just can't stand is his stealing. If Ibori was not a thief, he would be seen today as a stellar governor. But a thief is a thief.

Akala is a failure and so was Tinubu. Otherwise, I challenge anybody to point to his achievement that stands him from Akala. Apart from the fact that he was also involved in Toronto certificate forgery and drug issues. Even up till now he is still making trouble all over the place, pitting Fasola against the Lagos House of Assembly.
